Chapter 34: It's Raining Crystals starring Varick and Scap

Varick swore as he wrapped brown thread around the knuckles on his right hand. Earth magic surrounded the lines as the blonde Clydesdale punched a large crystal. His fist impacted with a far greater magnitude than usual, shattering the crystal into pieces. A boy in a kitsune mask was walking by drinking a smoothie when the noise caught his attention.

β€œWhat are you doing,” the boy asked as he watched the brown horse break another crystal. Off in the distance, the crystal wyrm rampaged in their direction, but that wasn’t as interesting as someone just breaking crystals.

β€œI’m out of needles and need something easy to enchant that I can throw at that thing,” the tailor answered before shattering one last crystal. β€œI’m Varick, by the way, and I hope this isn’t too forward, but what is your element?”

β€œOh, most people call me Scap, and I manipulate air,” the masked boy answered, still curious as the Clydesdale started wrapping different colored threads around the crystal shards.

β€œAir, huh? Does that mean you can accelerate objects through the air,” Varick asked as he finished wrapping the shards. The crystalline serpentine dragon was getting closer by the second as the Clydesdale casually gathered up the fragments.

β€œI could try to neutralize the air resistance and add a tailwind to the projectiles so they fly faster,” Scap mused as he gathered his magic around himself. There was a shift in the ambient air as the masked boy’s magic took effect. Taking that as his cue, Varick started pelting the crystal wyrm with the newly enchanted crystal shards. Each one flew further and faster than it would’ve normally. All the projectiles hit their target, driving the beast away.

β€œSo where did you get a smoothie this far up the mountain,” Varick inquired as he watched the dragon flee injured.

β€œI’m not sure,” Scap replied as he finished his drink. β€œI left for a walk and wandered into a shop, then kept walking till I found you.”
