Chapter 27: Varick and Brie Rain Fire

Being only eight inches tall made navigating the powdery quartz mountain difficult for the brown and white mouse folk, Brie. Despite that, she wouldn't let that stop her from facing down the charging crystal wyrm. In a flash, Brie changed into her five-foot-tall form as she fused with her eidolon. As the transformed mouse folk prepared to throw the biggest punch of her life, a lasso made of spell thread flew through the air at Brie. Distracted by her wind-up, the transformed child didn't notice she’d been caught till the thread cinched tight and pulled her out of the path of the serpentine drake.

β€œWhat the hell were you thinking,” Varick demanded after he pulled Brie to safety. The horse let his thread fall to the ground, now nothing more than mundane sewing material.

β€œThat snake thing is a bully and I was going to save the volai from him,” Brie answered, annoyed that her friend had stopped that plan.

β€œWe can fight it. We just have to be smart about it,” the Clydesdale tailor growled as needles appeared between his fingers. Each needle had a small red thread knotted through the eye of the projectile. β€œIf we combine our strength, we can do more damage than you just chipping the thing’s tooth with a punch.”

β€œIt was going to be a big punch,” Brie pouted but decided that Varick’s plan made sense. Together the duo found an overlook ahead of the rampaging beast. At the precisely right moment, Varick started throwing his needles at the beast. Each needle turned into a bolt of blue and purple flames midair as they streaked towards the crystal wyrm. Brie held out her hand sending her magic to wreath the bolts of flame in her own green flame. The blue, purple, and green flames struck the crystalline serpent dragon repeatedly as Varick and Brie rained their multicolored flames down. It wasn’t long before the beast was forced to retreat from its injuries.

β€œNow we let someone more suited for the task take care of it,” Varick laughed as he ran out of needles. Brie pouted a bit at being unable to finish the drake herself but decided to follow the tailor’s wisdom.
