Chapter 5: blood moon - 622 words

7. β€œYou don’t have to fear me,” says the Godspawn, who waits for you, but still circles like a predator. β€œWe can remake you so you’ll never be afraid, and you can reject weak, mortal flesh.” Draw or write your character confronting this temptationβ€”though you must resist it to win this battle!

The girl paced in front of the shifter like a tiger locked in a cage - although the expression on her face was the opposite of displeased. A twisted smirk, pleased with the outcome. Her insect-like arm clicked against itself as she moved.

Hiisi couldn't understand what she saw. Caspian didn't fight like this. Not willingly. This wasn't how he was. The Dinakian ran her eyes over the crystallized weaponry the eternal had summoned, seemingly out of thin air - or his own blood, rather.

The Lesser Godspawn's smirk widened into a deranged grin, and she stopped. "There you are," she giggled, her taunts clearly directed towards the Athos. "I was wondering when you'd show up."

"Cut that shit out, Caspian!" Hiisi spit abruptly, fear of the unknown lingering in her voice like a film of fat on the surface of a bowl of soup.

The slow shift on the eternal's appearance petrified her in place. His bright-colored hair darkened sluggishly one strand at a time, until they reached their destination of pitch black. Caspian turned his upper body deliberately, until he could meet Hiisi's tangerine gaze with his own. The Dinakian felt her chest tighten. A completely different color danced around the man's irises, like heated wax, irate about its disrupted slumber.

His eyes were slowly becoming red.

"This isn't your fight, ancient one," the shifter spoke so calmly, that it made no sense in the situation he was facing. "You may leave." Caspian's voice was still recognizable, but his tongue moved differently. He didn't speak like the mess of a man he was - he spoke like a murderer.

Hiisi could only watch the eternal turn back his back to her. Every single movement he executed made her scaly skin crawl. The Godspawn started to cackle. The Dinakian scanned her surroundings desperately, looking for anything that could do something. Anything.

Then she realized what Caspian had actually manifested. It wasn't just a polearm that dug into his palm like a spiked meat tenderized. A row of deep crimson blades spun around his neck, as though they were beautiful decorations with more than one purpose.

This was what she had to work with. Hiisi lunged forward with a few running steps, and took a leap of faith to reach the eternal's shoulders. She could feel the man's whole body react to the unannounced piggyback ride. That reaction included the fact, that the blades started to spin around their orbit faster. Hiisi didn't have time to care. She grabbed the first one she could catch with her bare hand, and it dug into her palm with glee.

The Godspawn shrieked. The crystalblood dagger cut open her cheek, making every trace of smugness bleed off of her figure in an instant. Once the weapon hit the floor, it shattered.

Caspian gasped for air. The world rushed back to him like a tidal wave. The pain in his dominant hand made him drop the polearm. Just like the dagger before it, it shattered from the impact against the floorboards. The blades that still spun around the shifter's neck halted, and fell to the ground like dead insects, following the example they had been given, and bursting into pieces.

Hiisi corrected her position, and set her arms over the eternal's shoulders to stay up. "There you fucking are," she hissed, her tone mixing together doses of anger and relief. The Dinakian patted the man's cheek a few times, as though to make sure he wouldn't slip back in to the state he had been in. She could see his eyes brighten, despite the burden of confusion and fear. Even though her muzzle crinkled from the passing wave of anxiety and pain, Hiisi couldn't help but smile.

"Now focus."
