Adventures in Interning: F3NN3C P1NK

Chapter 4: F3NN3C P1NK

“So you want me to make you a full custom mech suit so you can fight monsters,” Bridgette asked as Kaytlyn laid out hand-drawn blueprints. The white wolf ran her magitech metal right hand over the crude sketches, trying to make sense of them. “Do your parents know about this? Also, this is going to be expensive to make and power. How are you going to pay me, Kaytlyn?”

“My parents don’t know about it yet. I was hoping you’d be okay with a payment plan, and we can penguin power it,” the twelve-year-old answered the questions quickly before pointing to her talisman penguin, Franz. “He’s full of energy!”

“I’d like to be full of fish,” the cape penguin retorted in his posh accent. He had pushed in a box of crafting supplies and sat on the floor sipping a martini. Bridgette gave the bird a suspicious look before turning back to the diagrams.

“I suppose I do owe your brother a few favors,” the white wolf lady laughed as she popped open the supply crate full of asters and elemental pearls. “A payment plan can be worked out with a discount for my favorite fennec.”

Together, Bridgette and Kaytlyn worked hard on the mech armor. The wolf magitech engineer made the armor plating from a composite of different metals mixed with red asters to make a pink alloy. The helmet was the first piece constructed, as it would control the rest of the armor. Bridgette carefully measured Kaytlyn’s ears three times to ensure a precise fit. Once she was sure the fit was correct, Bridgette fitted the fennec with a small coin-shaped device hidden inside an earbow. A slight tap on the bow enclosed Kaytlyn’s face in a smooth pink metal helmet with blue lights that lit up the insides of the ears. Ruby red eye lenses gave its wearer valuable battlefield data and access to video and audio streaming services. Bridgette enhanced the head armor with earth pearls to grant extra protection to Kaytlyn’s head and made it great for headbutting haters.

Next up was the chest piece for the mech suit. Another round of measurements ensured a proper fit on the fennec. This time, Bridgette hid the armor in a guild pin that Kaytlyn could attach to her clothes. When activated, pink metal armor covered the fennec’s chest, arms, and hands. Lines of blue lights accented the torso with a larger crystalline light shaped like an outline of Kaytlyn’s face in the center of the chest. Wrist-mounted blasters fired elemental rays that changed depending on which brick weapon Kaytlyn loaded into the suit. A retractable white cape decorated the back of the suit and hid the extendable metal staff weapon that, when extended and empowered, had a blade made of elemental energy. Hidden speakers on the armor would amplify Kaytlyn’s voice and play music so others could enjoy her playlist. Fire pearls were loaded into the chestpiece to give it that extra kick of firepower.

Finally, the legs of the mech suit were the last piece fabricated. One final round of measurements and fabrication was underway. For this last bit of armor, Bridgette hid it in a band that Kaytlyn could wrap around the fennec’s tail. All three pieces could be activated together or individually, depending on the situation. More blue lights accented the pink metal of the armored greaves. The full mech suit added six inches to Kaytlyn’s overall height and left her tail unarmored. Jump boosters on the bottom of the feet provided extra lift and kick power with the help of air pearls. The full mech suit was too heavy to hover or windwalk, but it could “double jump” and do a short series of wall jumps. A hidden power port under a secret panel that Kaytlyn could open for Franz to empower the suit with enough battery to last several days, depending on usage, before recharging.

“So is it everything you wanted,” Brianna smiled as she watched Kaytlyn transform into her mech suit.

“Oh yeah, this will do nicely,” the fennec answered through the speakers on the suit. “F3NN3C P1NK online and ready to party.”
