Adventures in Interning: Giant Fox!

Chapter 11: Giant Fox!

“Are you sure this is the correct mix,” Vondell asked as the rainbow-dyed skunk watched his girlfriend finish the potion. The cauldron’s contents bubbled a strange yellow color instead of the red it was supposed to be.

“Relax, it’s fine,” Kaytlyn waved off her boyfriend’s concerns as the fennec filled a vial with the brew. “There’s nothing wrong with my health potion. Look, I’ll try some.” The small fox girl drank the vial’s contents with one big gulp.

Immediately, she could tell something was wrong as Kaytlyn began to choke and gag on the draft. Instead of tasting like cinnamon and apples, the potion tasted like stale onions. Had she used the wrong box of ingredients? Pain shot through the sandy-furred fennec as her body began to stretch and contort. It became difficult to breathe as her bones felt as if they were going to explode. Then, in an instant, everything went black. When Kaytlyn opened her eyes, everything around her looked so small.

“Kaytlyn! You’re like twenty feet tall,” Vondell shouted at his now super-sized significant other. As loud as the skunk shouted, the words barely reached the colossal-sized fox’s ears.

“What? I can’t hear you,” Kaytlyn replied in a voice so loud it almost knocked Vondell over. Luckily, her clothes had resized, so she wasn’t a giant nudist standing in the woods. “Wait! Hold still, I’ll pick you up.”

Instinctively afraid of the giant hand reaching for him, the skunk boy tried to run away. Unfortunately, he wasn’t fast enough and lifted himself into the air. Vondell clutched tightly to his girlfriend’s extra giant finger, terrified of falling. This incident was the last time he trusted her to read an ingredients list correctly.

“We need to change you back before someone notices,” Vondell shouted as Kaytlyn lifted him to her ear. “If the Archdruid or Plant Tender Liam notices, then we will get extra chores for a month.”

With a nod, the giant fox set off, trying to carefully creep among the trees of the Grove of the Harvest Druids. This new size made using her usual routes challenging to navigate. Hopefully, no one would notice the giant footprints before there was a chance to fix them. A few small trees got knocked over, but Kaytlyn made a note to return and fix them.

“I wonder if I can summon F3NN3C P1NK at this size,” the colossal fennec wondered aloud as she reached a clearing carrying her boyfriend. Suddenly, she stopped as Kaytlyn spotted a purple-eyed lioness, Archdruid Violet, and her half-wolf son, Plant Tender Liam.

“Catch your student while I dispel this,” the archdruid sighed as she summoned her bladed staff. A panicked look filled Kaytlyn’s large face as her teacher blasted the fox with a wave of purple energy. The pain of shrinking was just as bad as growing as the fennec returned to her original size. A scream escaped Vondell’s lips as he fell, only to be caught by his mentor.

“So which one of you wants to admit to playing around with the potion instead of brewing the one we requested,” Liam demands as he puts the skunk boy on the ground.

“I did it,” Kaytlyn claims the blame after hesitating. “I wasn’t following the instructions.” Vondell tried to speak up, but the fennec elbowed him.

“Alright then, Kaytlyn, you can fix everything you’ve trampled, and Vondell goes with Liam to dispose of the rest of that potion before it causes any more harm,” Archdruid Violet sternly ordered. No one dared argue and went about their tasks. Behind a tree in the distance, a blue rabbit girl watched with a smile.
