Love was weird - and it truly felt that way, too. It made him feel all warm and strange. Like on drugs that actually worked for once.

 

But that was a long time ago. Caspian wasn't even sure what it was with Nathaniel. It didn't feel like love. He knew he was selfish for keeping him for as long as he did - but the dragon wasn't willing to let go, either.

 

Grief had replaced most, if not all, feelings that could be linked to love for Caspian. It had been a sorry replacement for a really long time.

 

More than a millennium.

 

The gold he had treasured was long gone. He still remembered his pleading eyes. To not leave. To stay, whatever it took - but he couldn't. There was more than his heart on the line.

 

It was his life that was - even if he didn't really care about it nowadays. Even regretted making that choice. He should've embraced the outcome, but he didn't.

 

What would he have gained if he did? What did he actually gain by not embracing it?

 

Sorrow and knives in place of his heart. Was living really worth abandoning everything he would've died for?

 

A shame he would've given his life only thousands of years after he was faced with that very choice.

 

Now he was stuck with his grief, and a heart that could barely love without longing something that wasn't.

 

How was that worth anything?
