βSo whoβs the gift for anyways?β Seifer asked, helping Rogtuk hang a festive tapestry on his wall.
βMy mentor. The one who has been teaching me how to read.β Rogtuk answered after taking the nail out between his lips. With a few well aimed hits, the nail was driven into his wall and the tapestry dangled proudly, depicting a scene of Mother Wolf interacting with mortals on Long Night. The aurora in the sky had split wide open and many souls ran to meet with living loved ones.
βHey, Rogtuk.β Ginger called down the hall. βI did everything you asked. Would it be okay if I fixed us up a drink?β
βGo ahead. Thank you.β Rogtuk called back.
βWhat did you get him anyways?β Seifer asked as the two made their way into Rogtukβs living room. Azkul rested in front of a fireplace, unusually calm.
Rogtuk was about to answer, but caught the bare coffee table. Ginger said that sheβd be handling decorating it. The only thing sitting on it was the gift.
βDidnβt I have my talisman sitting on that table?β Seifer asked, patting his shirt down. βGinger! Whereβd you put my talisman?β
βWhat?β the small cat called from the other room after a moment of silence.
βMy talisman?β
βIt should be on the table!β
βThereβs nothing on the table but the present!β
Silence. Then shuffling as Ginger came into the room. If she was heavier, the men might have heard her stomping. She held an accusatory finger to Seifer and her mouth was open and ready to sling words that could devastate a nation. But a quick glance at the table and her faceβs rage was replaced with confusion.
βBut I did set it. It was all nice and everything.β She put a paw against her head. βOr I thought I did?β
βItβs all right, Ginger.β Rogtuk waved it off. βThanks anyways.β
