β€œSo who’s the gift for anyways?” Seifer asked, helping Rogtuk hang a festive tapestry on his wall.

β€œMy mentor. The one who has been teaching me how to read.” Rogtuk answered after taking the nail out between his lips. With a few well aimed hits, the nail was driven into his wall and the tapestry dangled proudly, depicting a scene of Mother Wolf interacting with mortals on Long Night. The aurora in the sky had split wide open and many souls ran to meet with living loved ones.

β€œHey, Rogtuk.” Ginger called down the hall. β€œI did everything you asked. Would it be okay if I fixed us up a drink?”

β€œGo ahead. Thank you.” Rogtuk called back.

β€œWhat did you get him anyways?” Seifer asked as the two made their way into Rogtuk’s living room. Azkul rested in front of a fireplace, unusually calm.

Rogtuk was about to answer, but caught the bare coffee table. Ginger said that she’d be handling decorating it. The only thing sitting on it was the gift.

β€œDidn’t I have my talisman sitting on that table?” Seifer asked, patting his shirt down. β€œGinger! Where’d you put my talisman?”

β€œWhat?” the small cat called from the other room after a moment of silence.

β€œMy talisman?”

β€œIt should be on the table!”

β€œThere’s nothing on the table but the present!”

Silence. Then shuffling as Ginger came into the room. If she was heavier, the men might have heard her stomping. She held an accusatory finger to Seifer and her mouth was open and ready to sling words that could devastate a nation. But a quick glance at the table and her face’s rage was replaced with confusion.

β€œBut I did set it. It was all nice and everything.” She put a paw against her head. β€œOr I thought I did?”

β€œIt’s all right, Ginger.” Rogtuk waved it off. β€œThanks anyways.”
