Chapter 2: What lies beyond the Moon
Prompt #6. As you travel back to the house of the Godspawn in the dark woods, eldritch forces play tricks on your mind. Write or draw about your characterβs visions of dark gods and foreboding prophecies, drawing on the Cthulhu Mythos or inventing your own entities using it as an inspiration.
Walking in the woods was a welcomed change of pace for Rigmor, it almost felt as if the unnatural being they've encountered earlier was just a figment of their imagination. However, the encounter wasn't over and the dark influence of the Godspawn had found them again.
The moonlit trail leading Rigmor around the trees made a sudden turn, reflections on the grass turned scales on an enormous serpentine structure spiraling high towards the moon. The witch doctor got stranded on it, unable to move an inch, trying to figure out their new predicament, when the scales underneath their feet began to flow upwards, like a calm river, slowly, but surely carrying its unwilling passenger upwards to the realm of the stars. From here Rigmor could see the forest below and the growing moon at the end of the spiraling trail, no longer a small bright circle in the sky, but a portal, beyond which lied an alien realm. When Rigmor got close enough to it, the gravity changed, making them fall into the moon.
The fall was surprisingly soft and the surface the witch doctor landed on was barren, like the ocean floor below the Midnight zone. The earth was no longer in sight and the path that led them here was gone too, but Rigmor could still see the stars surrounding them, some of which appeared to be moving closer to their position. Soon enough what could've been perceived as stars revealed themselves to be glowing spots on the bodies of indescribable behemoths swimming through the endless void of space. The witch doctor could hear their wordless song reaching their very soul. What were they trying to tell Rigmor? The witch doctor's mind was fully focused on the song as the time flew by...
"Screee!"
A sudden screech followed by the swipe of sharp claws piercing through the very fabric of the world - Brighid, Rigmor's trusted companion, burst through the otherworldly vision, before it could fully consume their friend's mind. The witch doctor was back in the woods, no strange creatures in sight, no song in their mind. Only then had Rigmor realized, that if not for the raptor, they could've never come back.
