Chapter 3: A New World - Encountering Wildlife.

Prompt #3 - Parkats

While wild parkats are more muted with smaller spots of color, centuries of domestication have drawn out the full rainbow in their feathered coats. Parkats are rarely privately owned, and it’s highly illegal to remove them from Aridin. Every city has a domestic pride of parkats that serve as mail carriers, hunters, and companions to the citizens. Their six limbs are webbed to allow them limited gliding ability, and they are unmatched at tree climbing. Parkats live in a community maintained nest known as the Guiler. They are generally considered physical representations of the will of the gods, and are highly respected and well cared for. Show your character encountering a parkat. Your piece must include your character and a parkat.

Walking, walking, and...oh my. Would you believe it? More WALKING!!!

It was truly beginning to seem as if Jiongu had fled to in the most boring world he could have possibly wound up in. Really, the only exciting thing that'd happened was that run in with that mucus-like creature. And that was a while ago. Aside from that, the only bright side to this, as he considered it, was the fact he could occasionally ditch the path and go grab a couple of those delicious red spheres from the crunchy brown things sticking out of the trees. But firing out a spell at the occasional bird was also pretty fun. Especially when he thought the colors of its plumage looked nice. It meant he could take them for himself before tossing the remains into his stomach. It's taste, while decent, didn't exactly compare to the red spheres, so he didn't make shooting down the creatures a common occurrence. It was more of just a way to have somethinganything spontaneous happen.

But hey, now that he'd thought about it, there was one other side to this. Back then, under the truce, where appearances were meant to be kept, Jiongu had been absolutely restless. Whereas before the truce, when he was practically always fighting, always on the move, always doing something, he had spent many of his days in one spot and no longer with the option to vent all of that energy into battle. Sometimes, he could spar with the occasional demon that wished to test their might against him or take walks around his castle. But that was a minor fix.

Out here, however, without any eyes on him, Jiongu could do whatever he wanted. He could climb those brown things, jump or run around, play "catch the arrow" with himself, chase whatever critter wandered from out of the forest and none would be the wiser. It was great! But as with other things, minor fixes in the face of his boredom.

"By the seven Kingdoms, if nothing about this situation changes then I'll go MAD!!" he shouted, grabbing what was left of his left horn and jostling his head around. "Grant me an end to this boredom before I grant myself an end to my life!!!" letting out a groan, Jiongu released his horn, instead bringing the arrow in his right hand into view and just staring at it. "Y'know what? Maybe we're just going about this wrong. Maybe we're just...not moving along fast enough. Yup. Yeah. Uh-Huh. That's gotta be it! Definitely!"

After reaffirming his own thoughts over the matter, Jiongu nodded to himself and raised both of his arms over his head in a stretching manner. He could feel that same sense of power he'd felt against the slime bubble to the surface of his being. Then, after the lines formed over his teeth, he broke into a sprint, releasing a burst of wind behind himself to boost him further along. He was sure to find something while moving at a pace like this. A village, a kingdom, a cart, anything! Just anything that wasn't apart of this forest! Anything that was different and would fulfill his request for something more exciting in his life.

And then something came. Further up, and rapidly approaching, he could see the end of the path. And right above it was a space, not unlike the one he had entered to get here, that flickered, like an old television set as he drew nearer to it. That was the first sign that what laid before him was a portal.

The second sign came from the arrow.

Ebony tore off, like the shell of a boiled egg being peeled off, and gave way to a marble surface. A magical aura now surrounded the arrow that Jiongu decided to point at the portal, just as he'd done for the one that landed him here. Without stopping, he plunged the arrow into it, closing his eyes as he sank into liquid static, which seemed to take him in as readily as he'd thrown himself into it. He could only hope that he wouldn't just end up back home once he reached the end of this portal. Because he definitely wasn't ready. Not when the most he could do was spawn just a couple of those fangs. Using such a small amount of attacks against a possible army of demons would be tantamount to suicide. And he was looking for revenge, not a way to wind up how he would've been if he'd stayed in that world.

And luckily enough, Jiongu wouldn't even have to consider using his ability against an enemy just yet. Because the area Jiongu'd wound up in once he'd reached the end of the portal felt nothing like back home. It was humid. Exceptionally so. And, upon opening his eyes, far too colorful. If he were the type to rate things, he'd have given the forest of the previous world a two on the color scale and this one a nine. A rich green was everywhere, accentuated by the myriad of colors known as flowers that looked to be just as common a sight as all of this lush greenery.

Needless to say, it was quite the breathtaking sight. But it was also shortlived. Because he had been knocked out of his shock by a weight crashing into the back of his head. It was followed by a flurry of movement, several limbs grappling parts of his face as Jiongu tried to remain standing, attempting to grab at whatever had just decided he deserved to be apart of their crash course.

"Bloody- I swear to- Stop moving, STOP MOVING!!!" Jiongu shouted, still trying to grab onto the little bastard. When he'd finally caught it, he held it out in front of himself, glaring as the six limbed creature stared right back at him. "Y'know, I oughta toss you into my stomach for what just happened. Got me sittin' here acting like Wrath. But..." Taking the time to inspect it, he'd firstly note its color, a dark, almost navy blue color. And in several spots, it had strange patterns, all varying shades of blue. When he moved on from the colors, he'd leant in a bit to try and take a look at the webbing between its arms but flinched back when it tried scratching him. "Not so happy about having been caught, huh? Well neither was I when you crashed into me, li'l one." he sighed.

Turning around, Jiongu looked in the direction of where the damned thing had come from. Higher up, on a tree branch, Jiongu was able to see two other creatures just like it, albeit differing in color. "Hmm. Maybe I just came in at the wrong time?" he pondered as his gaze went over to the creature still held in his left hand. "Well, whatever. You!" he pointed at it with the arrow still in his other hand. "Are a really nice to color. So, out of the mote sized bit of kindness of my heart, I shall relinquish you! But I'm definitely eating you if this happens again." Jiongu directed its attention at his stomach mouth, opening it so the creature could see the darkness that awaited it before closing it as the creature started to struggle.

"I assume you get the memo. So...get! Go on! Scamper!" he called out, setting the creature down and crossing his arms as it hissed at him then fled the scene. "...Well shoot, now I want another set of arms." he sighed, lightly shrugging his shoulders before walking off. He'd wasted enough time on that critter. Now, he wished to spend it exploring this new world.
