Ravi's Boss Fights: Miser Shen Prompt 3

Chapter 9: Miser Shen Prompt 3

Draw or write about your character enjoying the party. Are they dancing? Eating something delicious from the massive buffet? Hosting an impormptu costume contest? Creeping around the back rooms to find something that explains the odd feeling everyone has?

Ravi stared at the exterior of the rundown mansion. They should’ve expected something like this when the carriage of weasels showed up. So far, nothing this night had been what they expected. Contrary to the rest of the mansion, the steps were actually quite clean, but there were a lot of them. One hundred and seventy-three to be exact. Why did they need this many steps? Ravi would never know.

Stepping into the mansion Ravi was astonished to find a shockingly clean and refined interior, a stark contrast from outside. After being greeted by a short ugly looking old man, Ravi was left to their own devices and walked towards the open ballroom doors.

Something felt off as Ravi walked around the outer edge of the room and towards the pristine and very crowded bar, but they couldn't quite put their finger on it. While Ravi wouldn’t have minded dancing, the center of the room was very bright and Ravi didn’t want to deal with the potential headache that might ensue.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, Ravi didn’t recognize anyone. At least the drinks at the bar were free. Drink in hand, Ravi shadow traveled to a corner of the room that was dark and less occupied, and began to watch the people.

Eyes focused on the center of the room, Ravi didn’t notice a certain someone backing towards them and was startled when they ran into them.

“Excuse me? What- Tanner?”

It had seemed that Tanner had jumped a mile high when he had run into Ravi, but Ravi could now see the relief that flooded his eyes as he saw it was someone he knew.

“Oh thank Gaia. I thought I just ran into a random person. There’s too many people here for my liking.” Tanner sighed and leaned against the wall next to Ravi.

“Wanna help me then?” Ravi took a sip of their drink

“With what?”

“People watching. Something seems off, but I can’t quite figure out what.”

“Oh, that’s easy. There’s a bunch of different species here. A lot of these people’s costumes aren’t actually fake. For example, there’s a dryad, and a vampire over there, and a human/animal hybrid there and also a group of sirens.” Tanner pointed out each one and Ravi’s eyes widened as it all came together.

“In fact, most of the people here aren't even humans. I’m willing to bet that a good chunk of the ones that look like humans are actually creatures using enchantments or glamour.”

“That explains a lot. Thanks. Well then, wanna play a game of who can find the most of a certain species?”

“Why not.”
