Chapter 1: Chapter 1

A/N:  This is a story I have posted on Fanfiction.net under the name Animeboytoykoi.  People really seem to like it there so I decided to post it here on PD.  Of course since I started this a long time ago (Last February), it was when I wrote with mistakes every five seconds and no real basis in my mind to think of what I wrote.  So I went back and edited it up a tad bit, making it all dandy and special.  The chapters get longer and better as they go.

Disclaimer:  I don’t own any characters from Inuyasha.

Inescapable Destinies
Disappearence.

She watched as the world unfolded itself to her, as if inviting her to bask in its glory and beauty. And that is exactly what she wanted to do, just sit there the entire day and bask in the beauty of the world. And she would for as long as she could, because she knew sooner or later she would be brought back to her harsher more unwanted reality; the reality of a duty, revenge, and self assessing, caused by one comment or another. But for now, she would escape that reality and bask in the beauty that the world could give her.

If only I were able to do this without stop. Just stare at the world, listen to the sounds, and most of all, just live. No obligations, no self-doubt, no death, and no fighting. All I want to do is gaze at the world and what it brings to me. But alas my eyes are not shared with the others that inhabit these lands, or world. And as always duty finds you when you are willingly lost…
As if on cue, the sudden daily raucous was starting to settle in around her in the once beautifully peaceful world. The soft sounds of birds singing their morning song, and leaves being blown in the wind were all but lost, as if they were never there in the first place. And the beautiful animals that had settled near her had run off to escape the cause of the world’s disturbance. She sighed, a defeated and tired sigh, as she went back to dealing with breakfast while in the background you could still here the peace wrecker repeating what he said to become the latter.

“Oi, Kagome! Where is breakfast already? And all you other bunch of lazy bums, get up already! HEY! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME! GET UP I SAID! And hurry up with that food already wouldja, I’m starving… YOU ARE IGNORING ME AREN’T YOU? YOU BASTARDS LISTEN TO ME ALREADY….” Luckily his ranting was cut off by a calm, yet sleepy voice.
“Calm down Inuyasha. We’re up okay, we’re up. And I am most certain that Kagome-sama is cooking as fast as the fire will allow. There is no reason to become upset over such trivial things.” While he continued to try to talk Inuyasha into calming down he shot a glance at Kagome seeing her mouthing a ‘thank you’ to him. As he finally finished talking to Inuyasha he turned and started walking to Kagome as she finished serving everyone their ramen and accepted the bowl which she offered him.

They knew she was tired, and she had all the right to be. She has been working extra hard lately, not only just taking upon her regular duties but also taking up all their regular duties and few more that they had needed someone to do. Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kirara, and Inuyasha had all started to neglect their mutual obligations in everything they do, and Kagome had unselfishly picked up for them. So she was tired and here she was still doing her own part and theirs as she bustled back and forth readying their camp to leave and doing everything that she has to do except eat and rest.

And the worst part, they let her. They let her do their part, and her own part of chores. They let her starve while trying to keep them up to their daily standards. They let her go through her insomniac nights while trying to keep up.

So here they all were now, she had packed everything up and they were now walking aimlessly, hoping to find a Shikon shard, or a clue as to the whereabouts of Naraku. She trudged on after them, and if you only looked at her, it would seem that she was just as energetic as everyone else or even more. Yet if you were to look twice you would see the tired aura around her, surrounding her person, engulfing her, trying to make her look like she was giving in to her weaker state.
She walked on with Shippo perched on her shoulder talking about on thing or the other, Kirara in her arms, stroking the neko-youkai’s fur, Inuyasha in front leading them, Miroku and Sango behind him talking amongst them. And she, for the first time, brought up the rear. They weren’t on a path in the forest; rather they were looking for a different one because the last one had been a dead end. So they were in the forest, unquestioningly following their hanyou friend through the dense trees as he weaved and curved through the foliage.

When they finally came upon a field where they could discuss what to do now, they heard their hanyou friend give out a feral and threatening growl, as he unsheathed his sword and got in a battle stance. They quickly rushed to his side poising themselves for anything at his side, while Kagome put the two youkai down, one transforming and joining the others, the other hiding behind her leg.  The latter brought up her bow, notching an arrow, but all faltered when they heard Inuyasha start to laugh, at what they did not know, but there he was laughing his head off. And they weren’t certain if it was someone he was laughing at in the distance.

Then Kagome was able to see who it was, while he tried to stand up and regain his composure but failed miserably. As she stared at the person who was so badly injured she couldn’t help but feel sad for him, and mad at Inuyasha for being so cruel.

Speaking of which his laughter is getting to far away for my liking. Damn it, I have to stop him, I mean sure he is an enemy, but he can’t seriously think I will let him kill an injured person, does he! Plus Sesshomaru hasn’t been bothering us lately so why hurt him, right? So I should be going after Inuyasha right now right?
Mind set on her decision, she placed her bow and arrows on the ground and ran past her very perplexed friends; so much that they didn’t notice her go by. She ran as she tried to catch up to Inuyasha, not once taking her eyes off the wounded Sesshomaru, which was not just physical any longer, but also his pride from being laughed at by Inuyasha and seen in this state. As soon as she reached Inuyasha she was able to see a rustle in the bushes and she was most certain she saw a little girl there crying. She could see her again mouthing ‘Sesshomaru-sama!’ She knew she saw it, that girl is the girl that travels with Sesshomaru, Rin, her name was.

Then she turned her attention to Inuyasha and saw he had Tessaigia’s tip pointing towards Sesshomaru’s heart. She had to stop him from doing something stupid, and while thinking set her gaze on Sesshoumaru, taking in how badly he was wounded. He had a long cut going from his left shoulder to his right hip, a gash in his abdomen, and she could tell there were more on his back, along with a lot of small cuts and bruises on him. She finally decided to just do what ever came to mind, and went to catch up with Inuyasha. But her steps started to falter, her weakening state was starting to catch up to her, and her lids were becoming even heavier than her pack at the moment. But she had to stop Inuyasha from doing something as cruel as he wanted to do right now.

Trying her best to brush aside the fatigue, she ran faster as Inuyasha was taunting his brother. “So, the Great Sesshomaru, Taiyoukai of the Western Lands, is here now completely defenseless and at my feet. How does it feel, dear brother, to be at a hanyou’s feet and mercy? After all, I am below you, yet for some reason, at this moment I think a fucking bastard like you is below everyone!  Ha, This is going to be great! I finally get to kill you and show you who the better son of Inu no Taishio’s is…” He trailed off as he raised the sword above his head, stalking the last steps, bringing them closer.  He stared into the seething face of his brother who was still trying to pry himself off the ground, and had yet to succeed.

“INUYASHA! What are doing? Don’t you have any honor or morals? Well I do, and I wont just sit by idly as you kill an already injured person! So put away your Tessagia before I make you feel just how annoyed I am!”

Well, not what I was going for, but eh. Got the point across, no?
“Stay out of this!  What makes you think I will listen to you or that you have any say in this! This is my decision to make and… OI! Did you just say I have no honor! You little bitch! Who do you think you are all of a sudden? I-am-not-just-going-to-let-you-talk-down-to-me………” In Kagome’s head everything was starting to blur together. Her body was beginning to give out on her, and his yelling was giving her an immense headache.

This is not the time to faint Kagome! Now hurry up and speak your mind before you can’t find the strength.
But when she started to talk it sounded weak and forced. “Listen Inuyasha; just do this one thing for me. I have a very big list of reasons why you shouldn’t kill him, okay? Just don’t ask questions and have patience for once, cause then I will answer them later. And please stop with all the yelling.” But however weak it sounded neither Inuyasha nor her friends noticed, the only one who did was the very one she was trying to save.

“I told you not to tell me what to do! And how can you possibly have a reason not to kill Sesshomaru? He’s fucking tried to kill you before!” He was starting to become even more irritated by the second.
How can she tell me not to kill the person who has put her in danger so many times? She can’t be that damn kind can she?
As if reading his thoughts Miroku piped in, “Kagome-sama, although I would usually be on your side of the fight, I must agree with our hanyou friend here, he is an enemy and not even you are as kind as to tend to one.”

“That is right Kagome-chan; it is preposterous to even think about helping one who has tried to kill you on every occasion you meet. He is an enemy and we should end his life while we can. It is better to live with one less. We have enough as it is.”

Kagome was starting to hear less and less by the second, and her vision was beginning to be outlined with black as it tried to over come her. But she had to make sure they didn’t hurt Sesshoumaru, if they did then Rin wouldn’t have anyone to care for her. Plus if they killed Sesshomaru she would be frightened of them and they wouldn’t be able to take her to a village. She had gotten a chance to talk with Rin once when she was lost, and learned of how her and Sesshomaru came together and how much she loves him. She couldn’t ruin the little girls life, she just couldn’t. Plus she didn’t like the idea of killing an injured person, Sesshomaru or not. She had to speak up now, before she lost all strength to stand or even move, the darkness was starting to set in on her.

“Fine, if you won’t listen let me show you a reason not to kill Sesshomaru.” They watched as she turned around and headed towards some bushes and stopped in front of them. “Rin, you can come out now, I will make sure they don’t hurt you or Sesshomaru-sama.” And as soon as she finished her sentence they saw a bundle of something fling itself from out of the bushes and at Kagome. They watched as the latter fell on her back with a little girl latched to her, hands around her neck, face in her chest sobbing loudly, and knees on either side of Kagome’s body. The sobs racking her body gave way after about a minute of Kagome soothing circles into her back.

They watched as Kagome got up, the girl still with a death grip on her. Now they started to notice how weak she looked and was.  Watching in concern, they saw as she walked back to them, shooting a glance at the Taiyoukai, who had been quiet during the entire ordeal.

“This girl”, she began even weaker than before, “is under Sesshomaru-sama’s care. If we were to kill him she would be alone in this world, and would be too scared of us so we wouldn’t be able to take her to a village.” The darkness in her eyes was almost whole and her body plus the girls was becoming too much of a burden to her.
She sank down to her knees trying her best to support the little girl in her grasp, as she panted heavily, and her eyes blackened. She had to get them to promise first, before she gave in to her exhaustion.

“Promise me you won’t do anything to him. Promise me that I can trust you with this. Promise me, please…”
“We promise Kagome-sama, but what is wrong with you? You do not look well… Kagome-sama? Kagome-sama! Get up, Kagome-sama.”

“Kagome-chan!”

“Kagome-neesan!”

“Kagome-kaasan!”

“Kagome!” Was the last thing she would listen to before she felt warm and turned to look at Sesshomaru, who was also giving into his exhaustion. Kagome closed her eyes tight and before they hit the ground they were gone… disappearing into nothing, Kagome and Sess
