Chapter 6: Godspawn Part 8 Finale

Prompt 1 - Fighting Godspawn

Thomas laughed as he and Lock charged towards the Godspawn. He slashed at it as Lock darted underneath Ianira’s throat, dislodging the monster and getting her to chase them. The creature looked out of her mind, gore and foamed saliva dripping from her face as she continued to chase them.

Lock turned to land another blow on the creature with a roar, but the godspawn screeched and the two of them felt themselves being thrown back by an unseen force. Thomas was flung off of Lock’s back, rolling across the dirt and losing his sword in the process. He scrambled to get up, looking up to see Keys charging in, flames erupting from his hands towards the creature. The godspawn forced the fire back at Keys making him stumble back to keep from being burned. As soon as there was a gap in the flames, the godspawn darted at Keys.

Keys yelped as a heavy pressure pushed him down to the dirt, like something was sitting on his chest as the godspawn put a foot on his stomach, lifting her good claw to pierce through his chest.

Lock and Thomas screamed, trying to get there in time, but they didn’t have to as wind barrelled down through the skies and slammed the godspawn off of Keys, followed by Ianira who picked him up in her talons, flying up into the sky. Keys watched the ground fall away below him, scrambling to try and hold onto something despite the good grip Ianira had around his middle, closing his eye against the sight.

Lock and Thomas were already on the move, and got to the godspawn before she could get up again.

Thomas slammed his blade though her stomach, pinning her to the ground before he had to avoid getting his knee kicked out.

Lock huffed, rising onto her back legs, seeing the godspawn writhe under the blade, terrible mouth open wide, and slammed her front paws down onto her head.

The godspawn twitched faintly for a long moment before she stopped moving, ichor drooling onto the ground.

Now with new splatters in her fur covering the nearly dried ones from the librarian, Lock backed off, studying the godspawn for movement.

There was none. She nodded to Thomas, who stepped closer carefully to pull out the blade in the godspawn.

Ianira had flown back around with Keys still held in her claws. She slowed her descent and twisted Key’s upright as she landed, setting him on his feet before letting go.

Keys was still shaking from adrenaline as he made his way to Lock and Thomas, who were also coming to meet him.

β€œThat should keep other travelers safe for a bit,” Thomas commented, pulling out a rag to wipe his blade.

Ianira transformed into her humanoid form again and nodded. β€œHopefully,” she said.

β€œIs your throat okay?” Lock asked, coming over and trying to get a look at it.

β€œI’ll be fine,” Ianira said, but Lock was already pulling out a healing item for her.

The sun was beginning to rise on the horizon now as they healed up and Keys and Thomas got up on Lock’s back to ride home.

Thomas was still fueled by adrenaline and excitement after everything that had happened that night, though Keys laid down with his arms and legs dangling on either side of Lock, head pillowed on her neck, ready to sleep like that.

β€œSo, ah, we can all ignore the whole-” Ianira flapped her arms a little- β€œ thing, right?”

β€œOh, absolutely, Bird? What bird,” Thomas said jovially, hand on Keys’s back to make sure he didn’t fall off Lock while he slept.

Keys grumbled a little at the mention of a bird, but was soon asleep.

β€œWhat would you like to eat when we get to the cabin?” Lock asked Ianira, who simply shrugged.

β€œI’ll eat whatever you make.”

β€œWaffles and sausage!” Thomas declared, eager to eat after that fight and healing.

β€œWe can do that,” Lock said as they passed by the creepy library, which looked more decrepit than before, windows broken, holes in the roof, and a glimpse of moldering books inside. Keys woke himself up enough to glare at it, holding up a hand to shoot a fireball.

The old wood and books went up in flames in an instant as the fire ate what Keys told it to, leaving the rest of the forest alone. They watched for a few more minutes before they made their way back to the cabin where they slept, ate, cleaned themselves up, and relaxed, having survived yet another adventure.

Huzzah, they're finally home free! ...for now.
This was a fun ride, from beginning to end, great job.
And of course Keys would hold a grudge against the old hag's library and set it ablaze, lol!
