Chapter 1: The Charms of music

Violet was taught from a young age that music was a gift to the world and should be shared with others. She grew up in a loving household of a single mother and four older sisters with each sister being three years apart. Everyone in the family has some form of musical ability. The oldest girls, Bianca and Penny, were singers, the twins Maria and Clarissa played the lute and the pan flute, and the girl's mother, Wendy, played the lyre. Violet loved hearing her sisters sing while the twins and their mother played their instruments, perfectly in tune with each other.
Even though she loved her sisters, Violet was deeply jealous of them, because she felt she wasn't as talented as them. She couldn't sing like Bianca or Penny, or play an instrument like Maria or Clarissa. On her sixth birthday, she watched her family perform from afar, watching them from a tree. When it was time to return home, she stayed in her tree, letting her insecurities get the best of her.
When her sisters finally found her that afternoon, they were upset.
"What in the world were you thinking, child!?!" Penny exclaimed. "Do you understand how worried we were? Think of Mother. She nearly had a heart attack!"
"Stop yelling! It's giving me a headache," said Clarissa.
"Please, stop yelling," Maria added.
"Enough, all of you!" The sisters stopped their fussing at Bianca's voice.
Violet, unable to say how she was feeling, started to cry.
"Oh Violet, don't cry." Bianca sat her sister in her lap and gently stroked her hair. "What's wrong dear? You can tell us."
Violet loved Bianca the most out of her sisters. She was gentle and kind but knew how to gain respect. She always felt comfortable talking to her. "I-I want to be like you guys."
Bianca was puzzled. "Whatever do you mean, child?"
Violet wiped her tears. "I want to sing or play music like you guys, but I-" she started coughing, "but I can't." Violet began to cry again. After some time of crying, she looked at Bianca and saw her smiling. When she looked at the rest of her sisters, they were smiling as well.
Bianca picked Violet off the ground and held her in her arms. "I think we should go home. Mother is still worried."
When the girls returned home and calmed their mother down, they handed Violet a small purple box.
"Open it, dear," Bianca said gently. When Violet opened the box, her eyes lit up. It was a silver charm bracelet with a charm for each of her family members: a music note for Bianca and Penny, a lute for Maria, a pan flute for Clarissa, and a lyre for her mother.
"It's so pretty!" Violet squeaked. Bianca put the bracelet on her left wrist just as her mother came in holding a bigger box.
"This is also for you, dear." Violet opened the box. It was the most beautiful lyre she had ever seen. It was a wooden lyre made out of willow wood with flowers carved into it. "I didn't know if you would like it, but I wanted to get it for you anyway."
Violet gave her mother the biggest hug she could give her. "It's beautiful! The lyre and the bracelet, it's the best birthday ever!" Violet enjoyed games and cake with her family and had the best birthday ever. After that day, her mother taught her everything she knew, and Violet was a quick learner. Soon, she began performing in her village along with her sisters and mother and would always wear the bracelet Bianca gave her. Whenever someone asked her how she managed to play so well, she would always give credit to her lucky charm bracelet.
When Violet left her family and her village, she left with her lyre and her lucky charm bracelet which gives her the strength, courage, and ability to spread the gift of music.
