Chapter 2: Thoughts on Fire Magics

Since Isodore is not fire aligned, Dan has to train the signature spells under Solfis the Pyromancer, who practises the full spectrum of fire magic though is specialised in the divination from which his title derives its name. The two of them get on well and it has gone beyond the traditional spells with Solfis training Dan in other fire Magics, including seeing the future in dancing flames and the always popular Fireball, he has successfully cast the basic version and they are working on a variant that only affects enemies at the moment.

The destructive power and collateral damage inherent in the simplest to cast version of the Fireball spell frightens Dan. He never wants to be responsible for setting a large area of the countryside on fire or injuring his friends which are both risks Solfis has told him that are involved.

Dan likes that he knows spells not only to create and intensify existing fires but ones to control, reduce and stop them. He remembers the day he awakened his element. He had gone camping with Aether and they were having trouble extinguishing the fire using mundane means. It had leapt out of the ring of stones that they had tried to use to contain the original campfire and was spreading through some dry grass. In desperation to save themselves he pointed his hand at the fire and commanded it to stop burning, he was surprised when it worked remembering the legend about the human King who had tried to command the sea without appropriate Magics, though in that tale the consequences were much less dire and the king only looked foolish for failing.
