A book can have a lot of influence on a person. 

I mean, it’s always good to carry something with pages on you, at all times. Would you say that it’s not? Sometimes it’s a good read, sometimes it’s a good write.

I much prefer the latter.

Don’t get me wrong, art is amazing. I must say, I draw more than I write daily. There’s days when the inspiration just hits me, and I can’t resist pulling out a sketchbook and pen and just drawing. Then, there are days when I have to write. Some of those aren’t as enjoyable as others, I will admit, but back to the point.

I always have a book on me. Whether it’s to read from, draw in, or write in, I have bound pages in my bags at all times.

Writing and drawing, I feel at least, are better options than using my powers at every possible inconvenience. Call it autism, or cowardice, or whatever you will, but I prefer to sort out feelings without violence, thank you very much. And my influence tends to get rather violent, especially with my recent… regaining, of some of it, at least.

That’s not the point of this, though. Actually…

[The slight rustling of papers, quickly followed by muttering.]

Oh, just one item? Alright then.

I suppose that I carry one specific book with me almost religiously. My daughter and two closest friends conspired to hand-make it for me. One of my friends sourced the leather while the other got the paper, and they took both to my daughter to be bound into a book. She did a phenomenal job – I must admit, I was proud when I found it under the Christmas tree.

The leather is dark brown, the paper all mismatched and torn from use. I’ve seen to it being enchanted so that the paper never runs out, and it’s filled with my writings and ideas. All in purple ink, of course. 

If I ever find the words are coming hard for me, or I simply don’t want to engage in a situation, or people are talking over me, or whatever have you, I simply write it down and show it off. I may also find that words are coming hard for me, even when writing, so I have to draw out my plan. Visual images do tend to help me convey my ideas.

Though I also suppose talking to nothing but a tape recorder helps, as well, but I digress.

That’s the reason I joined PaperDemon, I guess – to help me learn to talk to people. It took me a lot to open up to Lizzie alone- er, my first friend- and she was the main one who encouraged me to join in upon learning about the game, simply because she knows that I need it. Some bad things have happened to me, yes, thus I also admit I could use it.

I really hope it helps, I really do. I hope it can help me lift this anxiety around talking to others, and help me move past needing that book to properly communicate. I need it, and I know it.
