Chapter 2: Trash Monster Boss Prompt #2

Prompt #2: Explore the Mystery. How did such a large creature stay hidden for so long? Has it always been here? Draw or write your character exploring the swamp, and hypothesizing where it came from or why it’s here now.

---------------------------------------------------

Sunlight scattered through the morning mist hitting the iridescent swamp waters of Wouagi. Rainbowy blooms of mucus danced on the watery surface. For the time being all was peaceful in these parts of the swamp. The same could not be said of the other areas. Plagued as it was by a new colossal beast who rose up from the muck the other day. Todd stepped cautiously into the muck.

While other adventurers more fluent in physical combat were staving off the giant’s advances, Todd elected to be here. In his waders. Trying very hard not to trip over a branch stuck to the soft floor of this mushy swamp. A band of folks had decided to canvas the mire for any clue to the creature’s, affectionately called “The Trash Monster,” origin. Todd wasn’t sure about this. What could they possibly find out here in this murky bog? Why, he could barely see his feet.

Slowly he made his way to a deeper part of the marsh. His waist submerged ever deeper into the bog. Salamanders slithered about on snaking branches above leaving trails of vibrantly colored mucus. It was here that some hypothesized that the swamp monster originated. Todd looked on forlornly at the depths below him. He squint past the iridescence atop the water down into the muck where the sunlight alighted the floor. Shaking his head he continued forward only this time his foot continued sinking. No floor caught the sole of his foot leading him to panic. He thrashed about in the water and grabbed onto a nearby exposed root. Panicked, and quite wet, he looked at where he came from. Light streamed down through the water revealing a gaping drop off the floorbed below. He clambered onto a branch praying it didn’t break under his weight. A great gaping hole could be seen lower down which Todd had nearly stepped into. The abyss underneath was dark and seemingly bottomless. Perhaps it was from here that the great creature arose from…

He needed to alert the others.
