Chapter 1: Her Role Model

Word had been going around the guild of discussing each other's role models. Wick stopped by to listen to a few of the stories. She heard wonderful things about mothers, fathers, friends, and even animals. So many intriguing tales that were told, and yet, Wick noticed that she couldn't really think of one off of the top of her head. She ruminated on it for a while in the quieter hours of the night. Was there really nobody that she looked up to? She thought about it day by day, but nothing really came up. She thought about her friends in the coven. They were wonderful, and she'd do just about anything for them, but did she really look up to them? They were more like equals, right? Companions, friends, tried-and-true bonds...nothing really to look up to. So she decided to think some more.

She headed over down towards the bar to look at a few of the more rugged adventurers tell their tales. Of the few acquainences she'd met while she was there, none of them really struck her as a role model...hmm. Maybe she just needed to be in the right space of mind.

The next morning, Little Wick eagerly looked outside and looked over at the rising sun that began to gently peek through the treeline. Today was gonna be the day she found her role model. With a skip and a hop, she eagerly left the guild house before the other adventurers, and set off on her own quest to find someone that she could truly admire.

Some of them had mentioned animals, right? Maybe all she needed to do was find the bestest, coolest animal ever that could teach her all kinds of new pranks that she wouldn't have even been able to fathom in her wildest dreams. She looked through bushes, she checked under every rock, but there didn't seem to be an animal that talked back to her. And even when her conversation starters were so interesting! Even yelling at a couple of them to scare them did nothing. The bugs under some of the rocks just kept on minding their own business. Dang it! Where was she supposed to find her role model!?

She walked a little further into the woods, watching over some of the larger animals that would pass by shaded spots under the trees. None of them particularly caught her interest...until she found one.

It was a beautiful white-tailed deer, standing in the middle of one of the glades without the slightest care in the world. This had to be the opportunity she was waiting for! Little Wick quickly assumed her coveted Sneak Stance, then peeked over one of the bushes to watch it do its business.

It perked its head up at the slight rustle of the leaves she'd made, looking around a bit cautiously before it went back to its meal. Yes, this had to be it! Look how quick and careful it was! This was the moment she was waiting for. She'd finally find the mentor she was waiting for all along! She eagerly lept from the bush, yelling excitedly, "HEY ARE YOU MY ROLE MODEL!?"

Unsurprisingly to the rest of the world, the deer was quick to take off in the other direction, galloping through the bushes, never to be seen again.

...DANG IT!

This was HOPELESS! She thought. I'm NEVER gonna find a role model...! She trudged back through the woods disappointedly, kicking up dirt and dust whenever there was loose soil and rocks to bat around. Her grumpiness had caried her from the clearing half a mile away all the way over to the river a little ways away from the guild house. She decided to take a break and sat down by the bank while the birds and worms woke up from the sun rising higher and higher into the sky. She would have had to shield her eyes if not for her big 'ol hat keeping her clear of sun, wind, and rain. She sighed and looked down at her reflection in the lake, staring for a little longer than usual as a thought planted herself in her head.

Wait a minute... She realized, gasping as her reflection did the same. She stood up and nearly jumped for joy as a revelation struck her like lightning.

"I'M MY OWN ROLE MODEL!!!" She cheered, rustling a few birds from the trees as her words echoed across the lake. That's right! She had to be her own role model! She taught herself most of the cool pranks she's done. She was the leader of the Coven, for crying out loud! Yes, SHE was her own teacher! And she was gonna be the best! Role model! EVER!

She was quick to turn heel and head right back to the inn, more than excited to finally share the news with everyone. She'd finally found a role model.
