Chapter NaN: Yeist wakes up
All Yeist knows is that he's unable to find who he was by staying still. He's stayed in this long-abandoned cave, empty and unwilling to move. The last time he saw someone, he saw... her. He tried hiding his hideous nature. She wanted to know him better, to study him. To find out who and what he was. That's when it struck, the buildup, the hunger. She didn't even scream as she could feel her consciousness slip away and he could hear her thoughts. He had thoughts?! He had... morals. A consciousness, something that gave him... that gave her... that gave... them a purpose. Finding a way to stop this feeling. It feels so good, but it feels so bad. He knows it's wrong to continue absorbing the people who wandered into his glaive, but such a thing is required to stay alive. Yeist could hear a voice echo into the cave. "I will slay the beast who took my daughter". His hundreds of eyestawks locked onto a bearded man. Armed with nothing but a steel axehead. He wore a knitted, red flannel uppercoat. He stood at the same height as Yeist normally did, roughly seven feet tall. Did he commit another sin? Another murder? Was it murder at all? If they became one, would that solve this aching pain in his heart?
The man's axe would normally have chopped directly into the flesh or through whatever piece of wood or animal he was slicing through, but with Yeist the axe merely separated and squished a few hundred larvae. Wait, Larvae? Yeist hadn't heard that word before now. The woman gave him knowledge. No, she was providing it Freely. This is... what she wanted. Now, what they wanted was to bring her father into the mix. Give him the same experience she had. An untapped world of knowledge, hidden behind the veil of an idiot's hive mind, nagivated by a lonely daughter. She felt that she couldn't do it alone. She would drown in the cocophany of voices. Her father's tears dried when he could hear her voice.
"D-dad. it's me. Really, me!"
"W-what in the nine hells is wrong with you! You became this... this THING!?"
"C-come insi-inside. I can ex-plain better fr-from in here."
The dark, muffled voice of Yeist cried out, gurgling some kind of liquid out of an unused vocal cord. How long had it been since he spoke? Centuries? A day? Measurements of time were hard without a relevant clock, such as the sun. Apparently she had figured out how to speak within seconds. How long had she been studying him? Did it matter?
"No, sir. I. Am. Her. She. Is. Me" , Yeist could feel it once more. Even though he'd just "eaten", he needed another hit, another... person, more thoughts.
, His voice gurgled once more, noticably distressed "G-Get Aw-way."
Yeist could feel that desire. His body shivered. The man's daughter commanded for Yeist's hands to reach out and snatch at her father. His father. Their father. Yeist couldn't help but launch wave after wave of his leeches into the man's screaming throat. Though now armed with the knowledge of her, Yeist knew that the man could not breathe and was likely choking in these last... no, the man was converted. He was now added to the collective conscious. The two discoursed. He was unsatisfied with the result but stood by his daughters decision. After all... this place they were experiencing was different from Yeist's perspective. he could only see the physical, the real, the outer. They were locked on the inner, the thoughts, the pathways that connected every wriggling wurm inside to create the form that Yeist held. Both of them, daughter and father reunited, wished to see the sunset once more. Yeist did not understand such a request, though they all stepped. One leg in front of the other. The echoes of the cave grew shallow as Yeist could feel a soft warmth against his pale skin. Their pale skin. Leathery and soft to the touch, he rubbed a finger against his forearm and studied it with a few Irises, attempting to quantify softness. His legs, under command of the family pair, made their way outside. A gentle breeze passed against Yeist's body. he felt a mouse sniff against his foot. It was not a thought to "eat" it, he could feel his body automatically swallow the beast into his leg, almost instantly converting it into biomass as he felt it join the man and daughter. He... he could feel them all? He could study their interactions. Perhaps this would make him seem "human enough" to pass within... within a city! The solution seemed so obvious. The man's thoughts notified Yeist of how high the crime rate was within the city and how he would have killed those criminals himself a long while ago if his back wasn't so bad... but now, his back was perfect, Yeist's back was immaculate in function. In form it was a layer of mycellium that slowly but surely replaced the draconic scales that used to exist. Over the years, the mycellium, this brain of mushrooms, it stayed put. perhaps it was dead, too. Yeist wouldn't know and didn't care enough. He did feel, though, that this mushroom area was a different space that he could place people. Somewhere separate from the Daughter and Father's... Larvae. Perhaps the Father's plan had a form of Jurisprudence that Yeist could agree with.
Yeist made his way to the city, where his adventure felt as though it were going to begin here, in this place, with these... mea- people. Yes people. He shook his head, trying to banish the invasive thoughts of overtaking as many people as possible, only to be cut down by some heroic and impossibly strong figure. B-but surely nobody would miss a few... criminal elements. His "mouth" watered at the thought. The daughter and Father weren't far behind, all their thoughts driven only by the next meal for the pile.
