The Umbrum look up at her, several reaching out towards with, with mouths and hooves, attempting to harm her as she passes by. Not all of them are distracted, but these three sure are! They've given up chasing others, focusing everything on Velvet as she weaves by!

Roll WIS to check if the Umbrum got her ensnared!

If she passes, roll DEX to see outcome of attack!
1-7 she not only misses hitting the Umbrum, at least one got a small hit in and she's grazed for 10 HPs worth!
8-15 she weaves by expertly, managing to not get hit at all by the Umbrum. They are, however, too fast for her and she misses her hit on them.
16-20 Not only does she do some expert weaving, worthy of a professional, she manages to smack one of the Umbrum, and they take x10/2 damage!

Velvet hisses in response - rolling a 2 and avoiding being caught in a nightmare!

Velvet rolls a 1 - missing her target completely and gets smacked for 10 damage!  She has 130 HP remaining!

Alas, Velvet is unlucky; the Umbrum notices the opening and several attempt to hit her. One lands a hit in, but the others do not. Still, these three's attention are on her, for better or worse, and they are advancing towards her menacingly. They are legion, and will never tire out, poor little pony... your end is here.

Roll a WIS, if you suceed... what would Velvet like to do with these three Umbrum? Will she escape into the air? Charge in? It may be dangerous with three on one!

The Umbrum watches Trail leave, but rather than give chase, it turns its attention to someone else entirely; there are so many ponies around its hard to keep concentrated on one, specially when emotions are fluctuating so much.

    No WIS save needed.

Roll DEX to see if Trail can escape or if he will be hindered! 1-4 he trips on his own feet and lands on the ground, having not made a good escape, the Umbrum will turn back towards him and begin its advance. 5-10 he escapes from this Umbrum! What would you like to do next?

    rolled a 3
Trail trips, while other ponies may have been able to escape it looks like he's not getting out of this fight quite so easily! he quickly scoots himself up to face the advancing umbrum and flairs out his wings, acting defensive.

The sound of the tripping pony catches the Umbrum's attention, and it turns back towards poor Trail, grinning malevolently.

    Got you now, little one.

The words are not said, they appear in Trail's mind, almost as intentions, rather than full words, unequivocally evil, a sinister whisper that trails down the pony's spine like a shiver. With a Neigh the Umbrum charges!

Roll WIS to check for nightmare, and then if you succeed, CON if you are going to brace for the hit. 1-4 you get hit for full damage!! You will take 15 HP, 5-9, you brace, and endure the hit, you only take 10 HP points! 10-12 You not only brace, but manage to find a nice foothold... taking only 5 HP AND you shove the Umbrum down, giving you a nice, clear free opening hit!

Finally reaching the Crystal Empire after the rather unpleasant incident on the road, Iced Mojito was ready for a break - though as soon as he saw what was going on, rest was the last thing on his mind. Watching ponys flee past him for but a moment, the strange screeches and moans heard from the quarantine zone were enough for him to throw aside all sign of fatigue. Galloping through the streets, towards the noise, he finally saw the warped infected, rampaging at the fences, cornering some poor ponys, ready to pounce.
There was no way around it - Mo had to step in. - He made his way through the fleeing crowd, and in between the Umbrum and the cornered ponies - raising to his hind legs, he did his best to block the Umbrums way, trying to ram them out of the way with his shoulder.

    Nightmare check: 3  :D

    ((Oh no XD inmediate nightmare))

The Umbrum noticed Mo inmediately, one focusing her eyes on him, narrowing with a hiss as she advanced on him. Something was going on with poor Mo, he is suddenly no longer where he was... engulfed in nightmares. Write or draw a small piece to share what Mo sees and how he breaks free to take another action!

Camellia's CHA is clearly infectious, because several ponies that had been around her, almost succumbing to their fear seem to frown, stealing themselves. A couple are so startled by her shout that they blink in shock and something akin to bemusement at her. Still, it has the desired effect, because at least one stallion neighs loudly, "YEAH! Let's go get 'em!" he roars, and charges into the fray, clearly reinvigorated.

The nearest Umbrum to Camellia turns and notices her approach (how could it not, with all that shouting!), bracing itself for impact, ears flat on its head.

Roll DEX to see if you hit! It's bracing, so it won't be hard to hit. 5+ to Hit!
The bracing though, means the damage may be lower, roll STR to assertain how much damage! 1-9 it will take Damage x1, 10-13 it will take damage x10 AND fall over prone!

Camellia rolled a 5 for DEX, and clumsily bonked into the Umbrum. With another 5 for STR, the effect wasn't exactly spectacular. But, she rolled a 13 for WIS, and was simply too irate for any of its illusion nonsense. Now that she'd succeeded in getting this far, she clung to the Umbrum in an effort to restrain it. She didn't really have a plan beyond holding it still, but at least she might be able to keep it out of trouble for a bit.

The Umbrum takes a small hit, the bracing having worked well against Camellia's charge, and no sooner is she in range, it turns its head towards her, rears up an attempts to hit her with its hooves.

The hit from Camellia was clearly not enough to retrain it, and in such close quarters... its made it much easier for the Umbrum to hit her in retaliation!

Roll a Dex to see if it hits. 1-6, it's going to hit Cam, cause 10 points of Damage, and Camelia will have to roll another WIS for nightmares! 7-10, the Umbrum misses, no WIS needed, 11-13 not only does the Umbrum miss.... it stumbles against Cam slightly, and is unfocused enough that Cam will not have to roll WIS and gets a free hit in if she wishes!

Luckily for Camellia, she rolled a 13 for DEX and evaded the Umbrum's attack. Still angried up from before, she took advantage of its brief stumble, and struck at it with her front legs.

Unbalanced, the Umbrum stumbles and can not evade the hit - go ahead and roll STR to check how much damage you do! No need for WIS. the damage will be x10!

Frazzling Thingamajig examines the scene unfolding in fear. These ponies were...mutating? Was that the proper word? No matter what words used to describe this tragedy could explain the fear instilled in her.

She had to remain calm and think rationally. She eyed the infected that were affected, and then a thought crossed her mind: everyone's friends were still there, right? Would there still be a chance to see reason?

Despite how scared she was, Frazzle pushed herself into approaching the mutated infected and pleading them to stop. This may not be the...brightest idea she had, but it doesn't hurt to try, right?

WISDOM roll: 3; Frazzle is afflicted with an illusion!

Frazzling Thingamajig's pleas fall on deaf ears. The warped infected uses his pegasus wings to grab her by the head and force her to meet his gaze. His eyes swirl into a sea of chaos...Frazzle is trapped in a nightmare illusion!

(To take another action, simply start your action with a link to an art or writing piece exploring what Frazzlig Thingamajig saw in her nightmare illusion.)

    https://www.paperdemon.com/app/art/view/59814

Frazzle's trance is finally broken after what felt like forever. That didn't work. What to do now..?

Frazzle pulls away from the Umbrum, her eyes widened in horror. She hates hurting others; even after the Umbrum attacked her, she could never bring herself to retaliate in violence. After stomping on the floor out of frustration, she turns to look around. She may not be able to help directly, but there's still something mysterious about this epidemic... Would this be a good time for an interview?

Frazzle opts to run towards the safely retreating group of ponies. After introducing herself, she asks the group if they witnessed the Umbrum-infected ponies feeling even more off than the other infected. Were they experiencing completely different symptoms, more intense feelings of illness, anything that set them apart from the non-umbrumfied infected? Or was this all sudden?

The Umbrum lets Frazzle go - chasing is not needed when it has so many ponies around to chose from, and it has no need to follow. It turns its attention shortly after to someone else with a neigh.

Roll a CHA to see if Frazzle gets any information out of the poor, terrified ponies! Anything above a 5 will succeed, and anything under will fail! If you fail, the ponies are just too scared to give her any coherent information and she'll have to move on or try something else!

Camellia rolled a 9. She would probably be pretty happy with that result, if she weren't so busy trying to maintain a "too angry to hallucinate" state of mind.

Oh, no, freezing Umbrum isn’t very effective. Some of them manage to get freed by their allies who are coming from all sides. Frostbite decides not to pull his punches anymore. He creates sharp icicles and sends them flying towards an Umbrum who is trying to free one of their frozen comrades. Frost aims at the Umbrum’s legs hoping to immobilize them.

Scourge notices several Umbrum suddenly running away from the fight and follows them. Where are they going? Are they trying to cowardly abandon their friends, or is there something going on he doesn’t know about?

(Frost rolls a 3, fails his WIS check and is now trapped in a nightmare.)

((Going to put an OOC notice here! You can't have Frost and Scourge in the same thread! I can not reply to both in one thread - shoot him over in the crystal chamber thread if you wish to use Scourge!))

The Umbrum manages to side step the icecles somehow, and turns her head to stare directly into Frost's soul (or lack thereof!), sending him spiraling into nightmares - post some writing or an art exploring what Frost sees to take a new action!

    Art thumbnail

Frostbite is more surprised than scared after he manages to shake the Umbrum’s nightmare off. What has just happened? He had bad dreams before, but only at night when he was sleeping and certainly not in the middle of a battle. Maybe he’s just tired. When this is all over, he should take a vacation.

Since his magic didn’t work, Frost resorts to physical attacks and kicks the Umbrum who gave him the nightmare with his hooves.

(WIS roll: 1 – Frost is unaffected by nightmares.)

Though the nightmare took hold but for a moment, the Umbrum takes the chance to advance forth, snarling, concentration on the spell its weaving. Soon it'll be close enough to take a deep bite into poor Flash.

However! Before that can happen, Flash manages to get free from the nightmare, and the Umbrum hisses its distate, it's so caught off guard by the spell failing that it should be relatively easy to hit it! No DEX, roll STR! 1-6 x1 Dam, 7-8 he does x1 Damage and manages to incapacitate the umbrum in some way, the choice is yours on how! Roll a Wis since the interaction is happening!

Luckily, with the shard clenched firmly in his mouth, Flash takes a deep breath and takes the opportunity to smack the umbrum's head as hard as he can.
He waits to see if the Umbrum would stumble back and whether or not he is manages to damage them.
(Flash rolled STR 8 and rolled WIS 15. He's unaffected by nightmares!)
