Brief biography:  Bertie is a grumpy artist who lives on the outskirts of town with his roommate Anise. .  He has some affinity with water magic, and uses it to fight the monsters that occasionally come their way.  His biggest goal is to be recognized as a great artist, and loves finding unusual subjects to paint.  Because he lives in such a small town however, most of his talent goes unnoticed, except by Anise. 

Bertie is a transman, living in a time and place where most people don't understand what that means, which is partly why he keeps to himself most of the time.
