Chapter 2: Mission 2 - What's that sound?

The stairs to the attic loomed overhead dauntingly, as Team Phantom Orchard stood staring into the dark void overhead hesitantly. It had been a slow week, and selections on the job board were slim pickings. Pippin had hoped someone else would have taken this task, but as the days passed the job posting dwindled and only Noibat's desperate plea for help still remained diligently posted on the board, untouched. So out of the goodness of her heart, and truthfully no other choice Team Phantom Orchard took the job. However here they all stood motionless at the foot of the stairs debating their next course of action.

Pippin wasn’t thrilled at the idea of exploring a creepy attic to investigate strange noises, what if it was a ghost Pokémon! Don’t get the young Bulbasaur wrong, she wasn’t scared of ghost Pokémon, many of them were actually quite sweet and misunderstood individuals, for arceus sake she worked and lived with one and who could ever be scared of Motley? Though regardless of her fondness for the Banette, some ghost Pokémon still had a reputation for being vindictive troublemakers who loved causing misfortune for others just for the fun of it, and based on the Noibat’s explanation of the situation it was starting to sound like an unhappy ghost Pokémon problem.

“Well standing around down here isn’t going to get the issue taken care of” Motley grumbled deciding if no one else was going to take the lead he would take one for the team. Slowly the rest of the team followed in suit behind him as they crept up the stairs into the attic. From first place it seemed like a normal attic, a bunch of dusty boxes and family heirlooms were scattered through the room, the only real light poured in through the floorboards below and a small window in the far corner of the attic. “It’s… actually kind of cozy up here aside from the dust” Pippin commented meandering throughout the attic space as she studied Mx. Noibat’s collection of stuff.

“Well, let’s not overstay our welcome” Watson’s voice piped up from the other side of the room, starting to carefully move some of the Knick knacks out of the way to better investigate the smaller cracks and crevices where smaller Pokémon might be able to hide out. Silence fell over the group as they busied themselves with their investigation, each one of them were on high alert for any suspicious sounds or movements that didn’t belong to one of their fellow teammates. A light scurrying sound caught the group's attention before a small ‘hmm?’ resonated from Edmund who had poked his head around the corner of some boxes. “Did you find something there Eddie?” Motley questioned floating overhead as he peered down at the Appletun. The gentle giant turned around slowly, a small bundle of white perched carefully on the top of his nose.

Nervously glancing around the group was a small quartet of Maushold balancing atop of Edmund’s nose. “Well, well!” Pippin chirped with a bright smile as she beamed at the little rodent Pokémon. “Looks like Mx. Noibat has some new roommates.” She remarked with a faint chuckle before waving at the little family of mice, even though they appeared to be nervous dealing with much larger pokemon they seemed to understand that the group meant them no harm. “Well Mx. Noibat we found the little troublemakers that’s been making all the racket” Watson called down before the Noibat popped their head up to see what all the commotion was about.

“Oh” The Noibat remarked as they approached Edmund looking at the little family of mice a puzzled look on their face, “and here I thought it was a monster that I couldn’t see, I didn’t realize a family of mice had moved into my upstairs” They commented with a sheepish chuckle, “Thank you very much for your assistance, I suppose it is nice to finally meet the pokemon who have moved in upstairs”

A cheery laugh followed their statement as Pippin sauntered up beside the client, “Glad we could be of some assistance, and hopefully you won’t have to worry about some bumps in the night anymore!”
