Chapter 1: Bunny Trouble
âArceus, this is boring.â Devin wasnât one to relax. Ever. She was a foolhardy creature, wanting more in life then just soft winds and green pastures.
When she first looked at the mission to keep an eye of the creatures at Breezy Meadow, she assumed thereâd be trouble. High winds flinging Combeeâs around or pulling out Woolooâs wool. But it was absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, boring. Devin was using her iron-clad boots to kick up rough bits of dirt, watching the bugs and mammalâs go about their day.
Jolly was playing with them, running around, exerting his old man body. Heâd get tired after this, he liked to remind Devin âIâm not built like I was when I was youngâ.
âObviously. Itâs cause youâre old now.â Devin always thought.
The wind rustled the treeâs ever so slightly, pulled at Devinâs ponytail ever so slightly. Nothing was happening. Would something ever happen.
The ground shaked. At first it was a low rumble, something Devin took note of but thought it might be the Tauros running amok. But it got deeper. It was a slow incline, so slow that not many of the roaming Pokemon noticed. But Jolly looked at Devin, and Devin back.
âShowtime.â
The ground began to crumble, not from out under the Pokemonâs feet, but the loose dirt began to shake, flying everywhere. Devin shielded her eyes to try get a better look at the situation. Pokemon were getting scared. Those who could fly raised up into the sky, fearfully watching the carnage below. Those on the ground cowered.
âTake them to safety Grampsâ Devin shouted over the noise. âIâll look for the source. This isnât just an earthquake by the feel of it, not a natural one at least.â
Jolly nodded, beckoning over frightened Monâs of all shapes and sizes. âItâll be okay little ones.â he smiled, using his body to shield them from the worst of the rubble. Small cuts and scathes painted his back, but luckily the Darmanitanâs skin was thick. He got all the unsuspecting Pokemon over to a large tree and took shelter from the opposing way of the wind. It was far enough away to not cause much trouble. He wanted to go help Devin but he knew that it wouldnât be a good shout to leave the poor Pokemon, they needed him to protect them.
Devin pulled her goggles from out her backpack to get a better view of the situation. Still solid in her stance, she put her nose to the ground to see if she could sniff out any trouble. Nothing. She was sure this wasnât a natural earthquake but she couldnât smell or see anything out of the ordinary.
Until. One jumped up. Then the next. Then one after the other, about 40 of them. Bunnelbys and Diggersbys. All uprooting the earth to get some sunlight. No wonder she couldnât smell them, they all smell of dirt anyway. Alongside them was also a single Diglett.
The clouds of dirt settled. The rubble came down and filled back in the holes that they left. Bar the patches of grass they tore up and the scared pokemon, it was like nothing had happened.
âWhat the Hell do you think youâre doing?? Whatâs wrong with you??â Devin stormed up to the group of Rabbits, fury in her face. All those scared pokemon, when the rabbits couldâve just walked. Idiots.
âSorry, darl, we weâre just travellinâ, donât let it tear you up.â One of the Diggersbyâs looked down over his belly at the horse.
âYou-â Flustered and even more annoyed, Devin decided to brace herself for battle. âDo not call me Darlâ. Iâm not your Darlâ, Right now. Iâm your enemy.â
The Diggersby snarled. But before he could do anything a blinding flash obscured his vision. Dazzling Gleam, He went to retaliate with a Double Kick, but Devin jumped out of the way, a Psychic terrain making her more light on her feet. This Diggersby thought he had this fight in the bag. Against a little girl like Devin. But Devin is no little girl, she is nothing less than a hero. The element of surprise worked in her favour more often than not. She downed a Schuca berry and braced herself for the oncoming attack, But she got wrapped in a bubble of Protection, She looked back, expecting to see Jolly, but no. This wasnât Jolly. A Bunnelby had protected her from the attack.
âStop this!â They shouted at the Diggersby. âWhatâs the point of fighting?â
The diggersby growled, âTo Win.â
âWeâve already messed up the field enough, are you really going to make it worse by tearing up more of the ground!â The Bunnelby retorted. âWhat good is winning when were just ruining lives.â
Devin stood down, the Bunny was right. She was only making this worse. Letting her own emotions run rampage. She should be protecting the park, not ruining it like these mongrels.
âPlease leave. Let me and the other residents restore the park. Youâve done enough damage.â
The Diggersby snarled.
âGo.â Devin did not falter.
The large rabbit turned around and cocked his head, the rest of his group followed. Except one.
âIâm sorry about that. Really sorry.â He said, as he saw the very shaken up Pokemon slowly come out of hiding.
âWhy did you protect me?â Devin didnât care for the Bunny or his apologies. But she was curious.
âMy brother can be a real idiot sometimes, I didnât want him to hurt you cause he has no temper control.â The Bunny looked away bashfully, âIâm not the strongest but I did what I had too to help, I didnât want him to hurt anyone else.â
Devin can read between lines pretty well. Sometimes unfortunately for her own sanity.
âYou gonna go back to his posse?â She asked, nonchalantly sounding enough.
âHavenât got many other places to go!â The rabbit sighed, but still kept a light voice.
âJoin my group, were small but mighty. You got a good heart, Just gotta train your body now.â
