If you click on this button on a crafting item, it shows the whole crafting menu and all items. I think it'd be more useful to access the crafting this way if it only showed items that could be made using the item you came from, like a filter. Preferably you'd be able to click a button from there to show everything again, but it'd be useful to more easily track down what exactly you can actually do with an item.
