Brief biography: Zeph is from an aristocratic family who control many exports, the likes of which I've not yet decided. His family along with most of the upper class use rather distasteful methods to maintain power of their employees, so that their employment looks a lot more like serfdom. Growing up without the direct influence of parents Zeph and Agni, his older sister, stood out among their cousins as more genial, kinder and fairer in the way they treated the servants. Upon finding out the ways in which their family treated their employees Agni essentially went on a warpath, insighting an incident in which several of her elders were injured and quite a few servants made their escapes. As a result of this indiscretion the head of the family elected to make an example of Agni, and very reasonably decided that an appropriate punishment would be to use their psionic hand to stop her heart while she begged for her life in front of the entire family and all their servants, including Zeph and a servant named Silver, who has a /whole/ other backstory and would be the closest thing Zeph has ever had to a friend outside of Agni. After watching his sister's brutal murder Zeph shut down, Silver being the only person he allowed even into his quarter for about a year while he mourned, trained, and plotted. After months of scrupulous planning Zeph orchestrated a mass revolt, effectively freeing all servants in the house, all employees under his family, and quite a few employees of other rich families. A side effect of this being that he locked his entire family in one room of their manor and proceeded to not entirely intentionally set the whole place on fire. But not normal fire, that woulda been fine, (probably) this would be the equivalent of that Greek fire that's green and magic and shit and that might be just from Percy Jackson because I've not actually fact checked it but ya know. And green fire cuz greed and there's a ton of other symbolism that only makes sense in Patrida, which is the world my dnd campaigns and all my other original creations exist in.
