The fae and the doctor looked at each other for some time in silence: at last Mycelia took the hookah out of her mouth, and addressed him in a languid, sleepy voice.

"Who are you?" said the fae.

This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation.  Bertrand replied, quite awkwardly, "It is difficult to say at present.  I thought I knew who I was initially, but I've changed many a time, you see."

"I don't see," said Mycelia; "Explain yourself!"

"I'm afraid I can't explain myself now," the doctor replied politely yet unsure, "for I no longer feel like myself."
