Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Hide and Seek

“I told you, you’re bad at hiding,” Demios said with a small chuckle. His little skimmer sister, who by Demios thinking looked nothing like him, sure did hold the record for worst hider. Both of them had grown up playing games of hide and seek, it was their game to play when their parents were away and only seaweed flowing in the current would keep them occupied from their boredom.

As the two of them grew older, it never changed. Even if it became childish for Demios, and his friends laughed at him for ‘putting up’ with his younger sister, he actually enjoyed it.

“Oh come on, let me hide again, please?” The skimmer yipped again.

“Alright, go and hide, I’ll count,” he said with a roll of his eyes, “Last time though,” he added as he closed his eyes, hearing his sister say something along the lines of “no peeking,” as she swam off as fast as she could.

“One…” Demios started to count, his eyes shut closed, thinking about the next obvious spot he’d find his sister in.

“Two…” he continued, a smile creeping on his face, wondering where she would be hiding.

“Three…” He hoped her hiding spot would be good, that way he’d have to work to find her.

“Four…” The hunt was his favorite part.

“Five…” He said, opening his eyes early, the greed of finding her was too much.

“Six…” he said, his red eyes glowing in the growing darkness.

“Seven…” She would be all his. Every single last memory, every single last action was his. He liked that feeling.

“Eight…” Control. He was in control, not her.

“Nine…” he said and started to move early, his eyes ablaze and seeking his target.

“Ten.” he said in a low, deep growl. The hunt was on. “Oh, Moray,” he said in a hushed tone, hoping he’d hear the giggle of his prey. Nothing came. She was very determined to stay hidden for her last game. Her very. Last. Game. “Where did you go, Moray,” he asked again but there was no answer.

Demios smiled. He would have to work for this one, it thrilled him just thinking about it. His instincts were in control now, he was a puppet on red strings of fate, just like how Moray would be when she was in his grasp.

Demios saw something flicker in the corner of his eye. He grinned, his tentacles curling as he turned towards the sound, his vision turned red as he looked down at his little sister that cowarded beneath a coral shelf of rock.

“I told you, you’re bad at hiding,” Demios said with a small chuckle.
