The Wraith’s Lament 

Chapter Five Separated

Senso had left his sister Riley and her Stryx Nemesis behind to try and rest or to at least help out while he and Anubis had set out with Kali and a group of soldiers to investigate the small opening by the sewer system where Mayhem entered the city’s docks. If it was not for the last second back up, Senso and his sister Riley along with Anubis and Nemesis would have not made it back, nor would they have finally caught the Rhaok, Mayhem. Although Senso and Anubis were somewhat injured and exhausted from the battle, they along with Kai and a group of soldiers carried on into the entrance of the sewer system. Inside looked like a whole new world that has been hidden deep under the grounds of Sol. Water rushing around from the raging storm outside caused the waves to smash around, filling more and more water into the paths. Broken down rubble and what appeared to be ancient carvings and pillars would cause the group to make random detours, unknowingly going deeper and deeper into the sewer systems. Luckily even the large silken Nox Nokt Harpia Anubis was able to fit even if it was somewhat of a tight squeeze. For the time being Senso, Anubis, Kali and the few soldiers that came along stayed close, holding out the lanterns before them to create a lit up path. Anubis and Senso stayed somewhat in the lead, being right now the so-called, “Big guns.” in case it was needed.

Senso’s hellhound Purple ears twitched at every sound, his nostrils flared with every scent he was able to pick up on, his left Golden eye and right Purple eye slowly glanced around, Anubis’ sharpe eyes stayed focused on the path before them, staying extra close to Senso as the two led the group silently. Not much was said simply so they can focus on finding the Rhaok, the fifth one who they have seemed to have forgotten about. As Senso and Anubis along with Kali and the group of soldiers carried on walking they suddenly started to slow down their walking as they started hearing what they thought was a Rhaok coming in all directions. It was hard even for Senso to pinpoint where exactly the sounds were coming from, “Get ready everyone.” Senso called out as he crouched slightly and got himself prepared, or so the thought. The group suddenly turned their backs to one another and took a few steps back until their backs were up against one another creating what seemed to be a full circle. They all stayed shockingly still as Senso and Anubis glanced around, Senso sniffed the air somewhat and perked his ears up, “I cannot seem to figure out where it is…” Senso spoke mainly to himself but it was loud enough to be heard. Suddenly the sounds of the growling Rhaok stopped, the scent did not even seem to be around either. Something was off and deep down Senso knew it, but they could not stand around either. 

Taking a small deep breath, Senso stood normally and lowered the lantern down a bit, slightly relaxing a little, “I think we should carry on before we lose track.” Senso finally spoke as he started to walk, Anubis walked slowly beside Senso and a few soldiers started to follow behind.The scent of musky waters and moss would overpower Senso’s sense of smell, and the sounds of the rushing water that seemed to be filling the tunnels threw off his excellent sense of hearing. The winds brushed around the group and made the lanterns flicker causing the already difficult path to be even worse to explore. The ground covered by water and moss and broken pillars made the adventure a bit more difficult than even the agile Senso thought. The fact that they are underground too did not exactly give Anubis the proper room he would need to properly defend the group if it came down to it. For a while it did not seem like the group was going to find the Rhaok they have been trying to find.

As Senso and Anubis along with two soldiers walked slightly ahead a deep low growl could be heard, and this time it was clear as day. Senso and Anubis stopped walking, and Kali and the few soldiers did the same, readying their spears while Senso’s claws slowly extended and Anubis grew tense. Senso’s nose flared as he sniffed the air, and his multicolored eyes scanned the area as the rest of the group looked around as well, “I hear it, I smell it…” Senso spoke to the group. Quickly everyone started to look around and unfortunately there was a bit of a gap between the group. This was the perfect time that the Rhaok has been waiting for, these beasts are extremely smart and cunning, with the added effects of the corruption and rage to go with it, this was almost too easy for the Rhaok or so it thought. The Rhaok had been watching and toying with the group since they started wandering into the sewers. However it had to be sure to move quickly and full force, the Rhaok knew that this group although small in size can and would be a big problem. The Rhaok watched the group look around in almost a fantic like manor and smirked to itself. Not only did these beasts have smarts, they almost seemed to have human-like emotion. Flicking its spade tail in excitement, the Rhaok stayed hidden behind the dark shadows from the pillars, its velvet body kept it well hidden even though the group had lanterns to help them see. 

Senso and Anubis were in front of the group and with that in mind, the Rhaok figured out that these two were more of a problem but they are injured so if it can manage to break them, then maybe just maybe the Rhaoks would be able to overpower Sol. At the very least the Rhaok could cause some delays and or worse. Within moments the Rhaok came rushing out from the shadows of the pillars and went directly for Anubis. The Rhaok’s speed and the element of surprise worked in its favor, and before Anubis knew it the Rhaok crashed full force into the silken nox nokt Harpia and sent him flying harshly into the weakened pillar, causing them to crash down on him to pin him down at least for a little. Senso’s ears twitched as the Rhaok crashed Anubis, spinning himself around and threw his spear right for the Rhaok’s midsection like a dart. The Rhaok was not giving anyone the chance to slow it down and as soon as that spear came rushing towards it, the Rhaok swiftly and effortlessly dodged the spear causing the spear to nail into a nearby pillar and moved now for Senso at equal speeds and force. Two soldiers tried their best to throw their spears at the Rhaok in an attempt to stop its rampage, only missing the quick and smart beast by seconds. Kali and the other two soldiers were running towards the charging Rhaok throwing their spears as well only for the Rhaok to duck and dodge them flawlessly. Senso’s eyes went wide as the Rhaok moved so flawlessly and quickly placed his arms up in an X like stance to block the on coming assault. The Rhaok came crashing into Senso sending him flying back regardless how strong he stood his ground, and gave no time for him to get back up before the Rhaok would move quickly to knock back down the staggering Senso. Clearly this beast knew what it was doing for the second Senso got to his feet, the Rhaok knocked into Senso again, sending him further and further back to the edge where the rushing waters would push him away if he were to fall in. 

Kali and the four soldiers tried to catch up to the Rhaok and split off to help Anubis who has been struggling to get out from the pile of rubble. Kali and a few soldiers went to try and help Senso but the slippy moss covered ground did not help them, and as soon as they got close enough the Rhaok quickly turned its direction from Senso to the rushing group and smirked as its spaded tail swung forwards nearly knocking Senso right into the water and smacked Kali and the soldiers harshly into the rushing waters. Senso’s eyes went wide as he was trying to regain his footing, and was just about to slip into the water as well when Anubis swooped in and grabbed Senso’s arm with his beak and yanked him close. Senso panted some, and spat out some blood from being knocked around, “Anubis..” Senso tried to speak, but it hurt to speak, “The others.” Senso added as the Rhaok used this time to take its leave and that it did, just as quickly as it ambushed them, it vanished. Senso was too injured to chase the beast and truthfully he did not care, he got split up from the group and he felt it was all his fault, “Anubis. We have to find them…” Senso nearly sobbed out as he clung to Anubis, and as if the nox nokt Harpia knew he could wrap his wing around Senso to give a little hug before pulling him up onto his back. Nothing was said as they now set out to look for the group.
