Chapter 1: Chapter 1

After Poseidon and Opal went with Salini to get driftwood, Kamiko went with Dalgo for kelp and seagrass. This accomplished, the four met up back at the concert hall site.

“Ready to build,” Salini asks, her voice full of excitement. Before a response can even be uttered, however, the spined phin grabs a piece of driftwood and starts the work handing out tools to the others. “Come on then, the sooner we start the sooner it’s done! Besides, it looks like some others have started too.”

Nodding, Kamiko chuckles. “Looks like she’s excited to get started,” the skimmer muses as she grabs the hammer passed to her. “You two- er- three coming?”

Poseidon chuckles while Opal looks unamused turning her head away. “Such delightful company you’ve thrown us into, Poseidon,” she grumbles.

“Play nice,” the male head replies giving his sister a halfhearted glare as he goes to join the others. Dalgo had followed Kamiko over already too by then.

At this point the sound of hammers and the bubbles of moving aqrion around the growing concert hall skeleton is unbearably apparent. There’s many aqrion swimming about the place and so much supplies Poseidon wonders momentarily if there’s any driftwood or kelp left anywhere nearby. It wouldn’t surprise him if not.

As he and his sister join the others, Poseidon also hears occasional talk of fluke singers coming soon. What in Aquella could those be?! Surely the phins were the only newcomers, right? Or was he mistaken?

“Hey, uh, Salini,” he murmurs, drawing nearer to the red, black, and white phin. “Do you know anything about these fluke singers they say are going to be coming soon?”

“Hmm,” the phin hums before spotting him and hearing his question. “Oh! A lot of others have been asking too. All I’m allowed to say is that it’s something to do with the band. You’ll meet them soon enough. For now let’s just focus on finishing this, ok?”

Though he wasn’t satisfied with her answer, it clearly was the best he was going to get. “I suppose that’s fair,” he mumbles before going to find Kamiko. He wasn’t really the best prepared for this and she was the one who had actually grabbed the hammer so maybe she could make use of the driftwood he was still dragging around.

When he found the frilled skimmer she was looking around for something. Spotting him with the driftwood, she smiles. “I just sent Dalgo to find you. Poor thing probably doesn’t know you came over here instead… That driftwood, does it have a home yet?”

“No-” he starts, but that’s all it takes for her to cut it free of him and quickly grab the vine before it floats away. “Perfect! We can use this for support above where the curtains are gonna be hung. Wanna help?”

“If we can,” Opal says before her brother can get a word in. Did she really like torturing him that much? A simple ‘no’ would’ve been easier for them both. Oh, wait, she controlled far less of the body than he did.

Shaking his head, Poseidon moves to join Kamiko positioning the log of driftwood. Dalgo also reappeared and rushed in to help too as Kamiko started to secure the log.

“How is this staying on the ground,” Opal asks curiously.

“The weight of so much driftwood and some heavy stuff from sunken ships as props,” is the response from a tired looking Dalgo. “It’s really all we could do. At least the hall looks good so far though! The band should be happy.”

Satisfied, Opal just looks at the driftwood now firmly in place. Poseidon is looking for something else to do that he feels more capable of though. “Do you happen to need help getting more props onto the stage,” he asks looking at Dalgo.

“That’s actually a huge help,” Dalgo replies. “Yeah, if you could do that it would be appreciated. The stage is almost done too so a few props couldn’t hurt on what we do have, but please be careful that you don’t take too much off the kelp yet. We don’t have the curtain rod quite set up yet and the kelp can easily float away.”

Nodding, Poseidon goes to see what he can do with the props leaving Kamiko and Dalgo to the next task of the curtain rod. It took another few hours to make it all look right, but eventually the concert hall was complete and Poseidon far more at ease with fewer other dragons around. Now to wait for the band of fluke singers, whatever the heck that meant anyway.
