Chapter 1: Chapter 1

It wasn’t Az’s first choice on the place to hang out, but she also didn’t mind the kelp aside from the few strands that broke off and got tangled on her fins or the constant tickling of the leaves when she got too close.  She did prefer open waters, but she preferred hanging out with her first as well.

“Ice,” Azurite said without hesitation right when Tinny had said kelp.  “Dolphins or Phin Singers?” Azurite said for her round, watching the other orange dragon as she thought about it.

“Well, they do definitely seem less judgy when you don’t understand them,” Azurite pointed out and Tinny nodded.

“W- Who are you?” Azurite said, confused of where the Aqrion had come from, looking towards her friend, who just shrugged in return, just as confused as she was.

“And you will not be interrupting random people you do not know,” Said a Giant Aqrion, who seemed rather dull in color.  “I am sorry for my…” the Aqrion started, seeming to forget the word he was looking for, “pest.” he finished, slightly nodding at his own word choice, figuring it was good enough for him.

“I’m not yours,” Maddox corrected, “And I’m not a pest,” he added quickly, though a little late in reaction.  The dull Aqrion seemed to be weighing his option of how useful it would be to argue with the arrogant Spined Aqrion and decided it would be best to leave it alone.

“It’s fine, might as well let Maddox have a round anyway,” Spessartine said, knowing it would be best to give Maddox what he wanted so he’d leave without a problem for the dull Aqrion to deal with.

Without a moment of hesitation both girls said “Vance,” simultaneously.  Maddox looked at both of them with disappointment in his eyes and Azurite watched Vance hide a smile.

“Cold water, obviously,” Azurite said, basically answering the same question she did earlier, and Spessy nodded in agreement.

Spessartine took a closer look at the snail, playing along, “Hard call, but I think the snail is better, not going to lie,” she said with a shrug and Maddox slumped.

“Me or good that leaves a bad taste in your mouth afterward?” he continued and Vance shook his head.

“I’m sorry Maddox, I think the bad taste is better than you,” Spessartine said with a sad tone, trying not to sound sarcastic, but she couldn’t help it.

“Okay, fine, last one, you’re going to pick me though,” Maddox said confidently, as he said with everything, “What’s better; Me or a pile of rotting fish guts in the depths of the ocean that have been eaten and thrown up by a Angler Fish and have been sitting there for 5 years.” Maddox finished, thinking for a moment before nodding his head, content with his final prompt.

“I think the five year old fish gus that’s been spat back up by an Angler Fish is better,” she said, thinking for a moment afterward to make sure she got the description right.

“Again, I’m very very very sorry for his behavior.  He actually believes the world is centered around him,” Vance said with a weak smile and both of the girls smiled back at him.

“I’m the only one that will take responsibility for his actions and keep him in line for the most part,” he answered.

“Then what is?” Vance said, like she was messing with him.  Spessartine just shrugged it off, like she didn’t know any better.  Vance just shook his head and swam off, apologizing for Maddox one last time before he disappeared.
