Story Summary

And by Hell, we mean High School of course. Which isn't the best place for a non-human, such as the Blood Kyn.

Chapter 1: Prologue

I already knew the day was going to go awry. A feeling in my gut, or perhaps the simple fact it was the first day of High school had set me to believing the fact. After all, there was no telling what the new sophomores would be like, how the former would react to becoming juniors, and then us. The new found seniors, who were to graduate in about a year before being sent off to some college in order to 'higher up' ourselves. Get a degree, become a professional. Whatever it was that humans normally did.

Gently touching the glamour amulet around around my neck, I couldn't help but be proud of how how much I actually appeared like them. My hair was still a deep midnight blue, with a length reaching to mid-back. Even my clothing was the same, showing off a muscular yet slim body. Difference from what I usually looked like? No tail, wings, extended nose, long ears or spikes showing. My markings and usual plain white eyes remained, however, which tended to set other people on the street off. But who was I to honestly care? I do admit I was always tempted to take it off just to unnerve them more, but... I personally didn't want the police suddenly breathing down my neck. That in itself would bring unwanted attention to my closest friend Ryouken and lover, Zaki. We had just come into the system--below our college level--and we didn't exactly want to be thrown out onto the street... again.

Turning down the path that led directly to the schools front, I wondered whether Zaki or Ryo would be waiting for me as promised. Or hiding from the curious little mortals. It seemed they had some sort of radar that could pick out people they knew never went there before--even when they ignored everyone else but their groupies or clique 'members'. Thankfully for me, I was able to go by undisturbed but for a few horrified glances. Perhaps it was my eyes?

Scoffing gently in amusement, I paused briefly to listen in on a conversation about said friends, then immediately continued on to the area they spoke about them being in. It seemed that they had been herded (trapped, actually), in a corner of the gym; remaining unable to pass lest they took their glamour amulet or ring off. As it was, their extreme close quarters set them both on edge, and accidentally touching one of them may just also cause them to lose control. Ryouken was the one most likely to snap considering the fact that she wasn't an... avid fan of the squishy creatures. Putting my thumbs into the corners of my mouth, I let off an unusually low whistle. Zaki was the first to realize it was me, a giggle emitting from the midst of his throat.

"Hey, kids. Time to clear out and let my friends go their way."

Briefly they turned and examined me. Finding me not worthy of their attention, they turned their backs. I felt a tic coming on at the corner of my mouth. "I SAID to leave them alone." No response. "Oh, yes, just -ignore- me. That is the most intelligent option."

Glaring at the backs of a mass of heads, I allowed a soft groan to pass between my lips. I was going to do this the hard way. Anybody up for flayed human?

...Well, at least I -wished- they could be flayed. We had tried before and were suddenly wanted for murder by the police. Wonder why? The answer still eluded me as I tried to figure a way around the situation. Which would include making no contact what-so-ever.
But that in itself seemed impossible.

"Oh, come on! The bell is about to ring? Your parents are calling? Someone is being shot on the street as we speak?" Still no reaction. I felt mildly annoyed. What would drag their attention away? And what did they find so interesting about Ryouken and Zaki, anyway? It wasn't as though they were putting on some sort of show to be enjoyed. Nor had they gotten rid of their mortal appearance. What was up?

Nibbling my lip, I decided now may actually be a good time to examine just -what- they were doing. Peering over the shoulder of the man in front of me, I immediately regretted having done so--considering the embarrassing situation Zaki had himself in. Apparently his giggle wasn't from recognition of my whistle, but instead... of being tickled. On the floor. Pinned underneath Ryo. Could it look any more perverted? "Oh. My. God. Ryouken, get off Zaki!"

And with that I left the gym in a flurry, flustered and mildly amused. Just wait until we got to third period. I was going to be sure to get Ryo back.
