A little Knight Work: Wild magic

  “Professor Golden Sage…” Pas muttered, reading out loud. “Nature of wild… no magic necessary…” 

 

 He wrinkled his muzzle as he finished reading, ears swiveling back. It had been what felt like far too short a time since they’d watched the Moon Widow, injured but alive and furious, scramble into the dark. It still felt like he’d failed at his training that she’d gotten away at all. The logical part of his brain said that was ridiculous… She was a spider so large that a full grown bat pony looked like a house fly by comparison. 

 

 He’d have had to be a pony of legend to defeat her when even Sword Dancer had failed. He had a hard time imagining Sword Dancer ever failing, and the fact she hadn’t brought down the Moon Widow suggested a lot about just how terrifying a foe she had been.

 

 No that she was. She was still alive out there, and that didn’t feel like a good thing. They’d saved the Bat Ponies though, as strange as they were. (They seemed alright as long as none of them invited him to BE lunch. Had that hurt? The pony who’d voluntarily donated his own neck to the cause had certainly had a degree of bravery that Pas wasn’t sure he had if that was the case. It bothered him that he couldn’t say the same. Maybe he’d have to face that fear someday. Not today though. Today he was trying to figure out how he felt about researching Wild Magic. 

 

 It made… sense? If they understood it at all, would it help them detect when it was going to make problems? Would it make it easier to stop creatures like the Widow? But then again… what if it did the opposite? What if it hurt ponies? He was supposed to be protecting them and he didn’t like the idea that someone might volunteer and get hurt. 

 

 Maybe he should volunteer, if for no other reason it would be a way to stay informed. Someone should keep in the loop… just in case there was some shady business going on. Well… someone should. Maybe he’d try and ask Brave Storm if she was planning on it, or what she thought. Or see if Frostbite or some of the others that had been in the cave had anything to say about it?

 

 It would be nice to get opinions from other ponies who had actually been there.
