November Event Part 1: Encroaching Winter

With a successful harvest festival behind them and a Nightmare Night full of reverie, the citizens of Equestria were content. Many even began to hope that peace had settled in for a time. It wasn’t so much complacency as it was consistency for a change. The guards and knights were able to perform their duties, the train was running smoothly across the realm, and resources were getting where they needed to. But as the days passed and the leaves fell the cracks began to show.

It started in the Crystal Empire. Though winter always arrived earlier so far north, the snow and ice came so hard that the train was cut off from the city. Travelers had to make their way by hoof or wing, though subzero temperatures, lashing winds, and snow. It was unprecedented for this time of year and there was no sign of it clearing. In fact, over just a few days the blizzard crept south. The train was trapped midway between Sumit’s Hollow and Ponyville. Cloudsdale was whipped around so harshly by the maelstrom that it had to be moved behind Canterlot and its mountain peak. Even then, weather ponies worked around the clock to keep it stable. Ponyville was buried in the show and ponies trapped in their homes. Even the river from Canterlot froze solid, waterfalls and all. The city looked like a snow covered sculpture glittering at its high altitude. Everypony knew something was wrong. This wasn’t just abnormal weather. Something had to be causing this.

Knights, mages, researchers, scouts, and more all gathered to set out north. It had to be coming from that direction. The way would be hard and treacherous. No one knew what they were up against, but they needed to be prepared to face the source of the storm.
