This Portal is Stable
Greetings PaperDemons! Brought to the attention of the Paperverse community by a terrible disaster, Kahari slithers in to settle itself among the known worlds. What adventures will you have there?
New to our Art RPG? Check out our beginner’s guide to get started!
Kahari’s sun flares blue haloes in the distance, bathing the land in cool evening hues. The ringed moon of Kahari hangs large and low in the sky, its grandeur eliciting a multitude of lunar traditions among the people every year. Arch-shaped, deep purple trees cluster in little groves around the oasis pools that dot the landscape. There are few places on Kahari where vegetation grows, but where it does, it grows lusciously. The only holdout plant that appears anywhere is the tenacious translucent white Moon’s Coat moss that creeps slowly across the landscape like a snail, leaving a trail of moonstone behind it.
The people of Kahari are known as the Thath. They are tall serpents with a single pair of arms that dress in clothes of brightly colored bands. Their scales can appear in any color of the rainbow.. The Thath are known for their skilled stonecrafting, even though their recent introduction to the Paperverse hasn’t given the word long to travel.
The Thath’s cities are the crown jewels of their stonecrafting. Long, low buildings with flat roofs make up a pristine grid in most towns, with buildings rising higher in cities. It’s a mark of excellent craftsmanship if the building is absolutely seamless. Many of the homes and important buildings sport one or more delicate, spiraling structures made out of moonstone at the exterior corners, artistic displays from one of the lunar festivals.
Now it’s your turn!

Prompts
Prompt #1 - The Starfields
In the south, a massive, shallow plain of water makes up one of Kahari’s almost-seas. Barely an inch or two in depth but miles across in length, the starfields are one of the planet’s most beautiful wonders. The water is so still that it reflects the stars and moon in an almost perfect mirror. Many residents of Kahari consider it the epitome of a romantic destination. Show your character exploring a star-speckled plain of water. Your piece must include your character and a large, shallow body of water that reflects the sky.
Prompt #2 - Lunar Lattice Festival
Moonstone glass grows across the landscape, left as deposits by a pale white moss known as Moon’s Coat. These moonstone structures trail across the ground in short bursts, and rarely grow upwards. While the moonstone itself is plentiful enough that it’s not considered valuable, the people of Kahari use it as windows for their buildings– and also during an important cultural celebration that’s held twice yearly during major lunar events. Artisans shape the moonstone into tall, delicately thin structures that showcase their skill. At the end of the festival, many of the pieces are auctioned off at high prices to be treasured as works of art. Most are too tall to be brought inside, and are instead fixed to the exterior corners of homes and buildings. Show your character at the Lunar Lattice Festival. Your piece must include your character and an opalescent sculpture.
Prompt #3 - Eeps
Eeps are lightly sticky, thick furred puffballs with massive compound eyes. They float on gentle breezes and attach themselves to any moving thing they can find in order to travel to the next garden to eat. They’re considered nuisances in the wild, but beloved pets when domesticated. Rumor has it that Eeps were named for the noise you make when you discover that one has attached itself to you and has been hitching a ride for who knows how long. Eeps are typically fist sized when fully grown, but as hatchlings they can be as small as a pea. Eeps do not have legs and instead move by using flexible, urchin-like tube feet. Most Eeps are white, but their coats take natural dyes excellently and without health concerns, so in domestic settings they frequently feature vibrantly colored fur. Show your character encountering an Eep. Your piece must include your character and an Eep.
Prompt #4 - Portal Posi
Posi is an elderly lavender Thath woman who singlehandedly accounts for snakes incorrectly being considered ‘slippery.’ It’s unlikely you’ll ever find her– but she’ll find you. Posi is enthralled with portals, and her shenanigans are better known than all of Kahari put together. She’s caused more than a few issues for the guilds and various planets with her dabbling in portal magic. Her lab is said to be protected by spine-like robots with portals for heads, but nobody has shown any proof. Portal Posi is said to collect talismans for her research– if you happen to have extras you may attract her attention. Show your character encountering Portal Posi or their journey fulfilling Portal Posi’s quest for talismans– or snatching back talismans that she’s acquired against the owner’s wishes. Your piece must include your character and either Portal Posi or a scene during the quest.
