Greetings PaperDemons– and Aquellans! This month, the Adventurers of the Paperverse and the creatures of Aquella are coming together to combat an invasion that threatens to decimate the beautiful kelp forests beneath the waters of Aquella.

The surface of the ocean is covered in infested kelp. The waters below are dark, sunlight blocked by the floating mat. Millions upon millions of flashy gold and purple spiny creatures crawl across the kelp, shredding it with their buzzsaw mouths. Frilled Urchins.

Frilled urchins are spiny, fishlike urchins with long wavy fins. Their spines are poisonous, and they aren’t edible without significant preparation to most species. They eat unstoppably throughout their lifetimes.

These creatures aren’t native to Aquella, and within the span of a handful of months their population has exploded out of control. They sever kelp from its anchors and ride it to the surface where they feast on the rotting plant matter until they fall back down to the ocean floor to repeat the cycle over again.

Adventurers and Aquellans both must come together to stop this threat before the Kelp forests are no more.

Challenge Requirements

For this Art RPG Quest Challenge, you will be taking your very own original character on a special quest. If you’re playing on the PaperDemon side, you will be using the character you registered in our Character Creation Challenge. If you haven’t registered a character yet, follow that link to do so!

If you’re playing on the Dragons of Aquella side, here's the Dragon's of Aquella beginners guide. If you don't own a character yet, you may borrow one of our starters to enter with.

Either way, your character must be registered in one of the two games in order for you to participate. 

Pick one of the prompts below and draw or write your character tackling this crossover!

• If you are submitting art, it should be a full color piece that shows at least half of your character’s body and a background. You must also include at least a halfbody of another player’s character from the opposite ARPG. The piece should be shaded.

• If you are submitting writing, your registered character should be the focus of the piece. The piece should be at least 1000 words and it must match the content of the prompt you have chosen.

• Submit your creative work to PaperDemon.com and copy paste the prompt you selected into the submission description.

Prompts

Prompt #1 - Umpteen Urchins

There are so many urchins that you hardly even know where to start. But start you must, before the tiny beasts disrupt an entire ecosystem. Draw or write about your character’s efforts to catch or kill Frilled Urchins. Your piece must include your character, a character from the opposite ARPG, and a Frilled Urchin.

Prompt #2 - The Snack that Bites Back

While Frilled Urchins aren’t considered a delicacy… well, anywhere, you’ve got to do something with them. Just make sure to cook them thoroughly to destroy the poison. Or don’t, if you like to live on the edge. You can use the spines as toothpicks or just sprinkle them in for an extra crunch. Draw or write about your character cooking and/or eating a Frilled Urchin. Your piece must include your character, a character from the opposite ARPG, and a Frilled Urchin.

Prompt #3 - Cleanup

The sheer amount of kelp that the urchins destroyed and uprooted is blocking sunlight– preventing new kelp from growing and chilling the waters. Lend a hand to clean up the giant mats of kelp from the water’s surface.  Draw or write about your character dealing with the floating mats of rotting kelp. Your piece must include your character, a character from the opposite ARPG, and a whole lot of kelp.

Because this is a special event, it will not be accessible via a Junket Tank or other special item. Once the deadline passes, the event is over.
