Teehee! Advanced Critique it is, luv. I owe you at least so much.
First off - I think the poker chips are coming along great! Once you up the contrast like you say you're doing anyway, they should be top-notch.
Same with the glass. The shine and texture there looks pretty darned awesome.
For shading - I think one of the things that would help would be the darkern the forehead shadow where the temple would be. This should help meld the darker and lighter aspects of the drawing together, because that area is so centrally located. All in all, I think the shadows on his face could be exaggerated a bit more without losing detail.
The next thing that pulls my attention is his hand. The ball of his hand looks to me to be coming down too low? I've attached a visual critique to explain myself better.
That smoke, though, is to die for. I love how this is looking right now!
