Japan Poster

Posted May 21, 2005, 12:37:34 AM UTC
Couldn't fit all of this one on the scanner...Sorry! This is a poster I made for a trip I got a teacher to sponsor; it's only a month until I'll be in Japan! Can't wait...But anyway, if you're thinking you've seen the character on here before, you probably have! It's Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. I took a couple of my favorite poses of him and a dragon and just kind of threw it all together. I added the texture for presentation purposes. This one's got some trouble spots, so all criticism is welcome! (Constructive that is!) ^.^

Good linework, I realy like this one but the dragon could use a bit of work if you don't mind me saying. As for the original being too big, cut and paste! I've only recently learned how to do this myself and it's very gratifying to be able to post the whole pic.

I'm very excited for you. I used to recide in Japan for some time, which part are you going to? Anyways, I know you'll love it there.

Don't mind at all. I've never been very good at drawing animals in general (can a dragon be considered an animal? Laughing ) Anyway, the count down is 5 days from today...Wahh! I can't wait. But we're going to Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone, and Tokyo. What was your experience in Japan, did you enjoy it?

I grew up a military brat and my father was stationed in Okinawa. I spent about 2 yrs there. I had an awesome time there it also helped that i'm part Japanese and I got to stay with some of my distant relatives off base too. I just love the culture and festivals. Everything!

I agree with BogusRed... Unfortunately the dragon is not as high-quality as the other aspects of the drawing. However, you have done an awesome job of inking!

Thank you! And I totally agree about the dragon. To tell the truth, I put this up here to gloat that I'm going to Japan. Evil I've only got 13 days until I leave! ROFL

You'll love it there.. I know I did. Which part are you going to?

Ooo, you've gone? Bounce Nifty. I'm going with a group that's traveling to Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone, and Tokyo. We're spending our last 3 days in Tokyo to do some much needed shopping. ROFL

-don't- go to the Disneyland there. It's kinda funny, but WAY overcrowded and overpriced (just like I assume any Disneyland would be). I got stuck going there with my exchange group, and the only cool thing about it was listening to the little Japanese people singing "Zi-pa-di-du-da, zi-pa-dzi-e"... Which was, admittedly, very cute.

I spent most of my time in a little city called Azuma-Machi. We went to Tokyo for a while, and also climbed Mount Tsukuba, but that's all. We spent a lot of time getting to know the people. You'll love it there... Smile

Whether this has any "trouble spots" or not, it is a beautiful drawing. It looks like you worked really hard on it. Unfortunately, our work doesn't always come out without some problem or another. I really like the display and the texture on it. It makes it look authentic.

      Wow :goku: Thank you!

You're welcome. I think this pic would make an awesome watercolor painting, too. Just an idea.
        • May 22, 2005, 1:41:17 PM UTC
Hmmm, I've never really worked with watercolor before, but it couldn't hurt to try, right? ^.^ Thanks so much for the idea, I think I'll take you up on that!

Please do. You are such a great artist and I think it would be beautiful. There's even colored pencils that you can go over with water and they turn into watercolors. They're pretty inexpensive. My set was only like $4 at Staples. I love them. That's what I did the back ground on my Inuyasha collage with. Purple watercolor pencil. It turns out so pretty. I think this pic would look gorgeous like that. Well, Kenshin is just gorgeous, anyway.

I really like the drawing, especially the Japanese writing.
You are likely to go to Japan, have a good trip!
    • May 21, 2005, 10:02:33 AM UTC
Thanks so much! And yes, I am incredibly lucky and very grateful!

I agree, the dragon looks kinda wierd...but I do love how the Kenshin's came out! I love that show! Awesome job.

I think the kenshins look really good but the dragon is kind of mushy looking. I don't like that the kanji is ontop of the dragon either.
I wish I could go to Japan Sad I hope you have fun on your trip!

Thankies! And, I agree, the whole dragon thing really threw me off...Bleh...I sure will! I'll be sure to tell ya' all about it when I get back! Bounce
