Autumn Fay - Stage 4

Posted Nov 25, 2005, 5:21:55 AM UTC
OK, EBS.  Shading done.  Do you still want me to tint it?  Please let me know what you think ASAP, so I can get this one done and sent off to you.

Also, guys, now is when I need the problematic areas pointed out - preferably with ways to fix them if the problem is obscure.  Later it will be much more difficult.  You are all so great!  Thanks for your input thus far.

Actually, Mike, this is a good place for all ages. Wink There are definitely some young 'ens in here, but I'm sure we'd welcome your lovely sense of humour if ever you deigned to join us. There are old farts as well, you see. If I weren't so young in numbers, I'll bet you anything I'd be calling meself an old fart. Wink ROFL

Ah, Mike. I'm glad you dropped by. Yes - this is definitely my hidey-hole. I don't spend much time anywhere else anymore, as this is where ALL of my work is welcomed (and I feel I can help with something, too, being a moderator and all that jazz).

Anyway, sweet dreams, Silver Boots. I'll see you around soon. Wink

Oh! I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to respond! I've been out of town and have not been able to get my hands on a computer for a few days. Doh

Oh gosh Robin...I LOVE LOVE LOVE how this has turned out! In my wildest dreams I never imagined it looking this beautiful. As for the tinting if you have time to tint it that would be great. If not, I love it just the way it is. It is absolutly GEORGEOUS!!!

I can still tint it! No worries. It won't take long anyhow. I just hope I don't hurt it... Embarrassed I'm always nervous about that. But I must master my fears! *puts on a brave face*

I'm glad you are so very happy with it, luv! I forgot ALL about American Thanksgiving. Sorry about that. Tongue We've already had ours over here, you see.

Right, now. I will talk to you later, sweet dreams.

Great! Don't worry, I'm sure anything you do I'm going to LOVE, so don't stress out about the tinting. And I don't know exactly when the Canadian Thanksgiving is either so we're even on that one! ha ha Wink

Thank you Robin! Sweet dreams to you too! Smile

Wow! this is looking more and more amazing Robin. Truly inspiring work. I wish I was the mind behind this masterpiece ( in the works Smile ) your work in graphite is awesome.

Embarrassed Zac, you have an even more creative mind behind YOUR masterpieces as it is already. You don't want mine, it's troubled.

Thanks for the great big ego boost, luv!

Oh Robin. I always love looking at your drawings. They always bring a smile to my face. Smile <---- See? Anywhoo, I agree that her one little hand should be a bit more "open." It looks like she is going to "knock on wood." Ha! Okay, so maybe that was corny. Laughing Anyway, the shading is beautiful And I love the serenity of the forest background with the little sprites or whatever they are. It feels magical. Damn... I think I shall win an award for corniness. Laughing All my love to you. You are my most favorite artist of all. Smile Love, Mrs. Butmer

Oh! Smiling is good. It's so positive!

I've fixed the hand on the original now, and once I get the go-ahead from EBS I can post it again all fixed up. For now, I just need to know from her whether or not I should still tint it.

I'm not opning her hand, though. Just moving the thumb. I often sit leaning on my fist, so this looks really quite natural to me. Am I weird that way? I thought it was a normal way of leaning.... Cwazy. ROFL
      • Nov 25, 2005, 8:26:52 PM UTC
It is my professional opinion my dear, that yes, you are weird that way. Yes But I love you in spite of your freakish ways of leaning. ^_^ Anywhoo, I will be looking out for the picture when it is all done. And what my dear, do you mean by "tinting?" This is all together new to me. Well, 'tis quite loverly anyway. I want to squoze you and pinch your cheeks because I just can't help myself. ^_^ All my love to you. Mwah mwah mwah! Kisses a thousand million times.

Oh dear me. I'm weird! Who'd have thunk it?

Tinting is when I just put a little tiny bit of feather-light colour in with the pencil work. Do you remember my Freyja piece? It's still in my gallery here, but she's an example of my tinting with pencilcrayons. EBS and I discussed it before, and she wanted me to do it, but now the pencilwork is basically done, I wanted to know if she's changed her mind. I'm not going to wait much longer, though, and she seems to be away... I just have so much other stuff to work on - she was just the first in line.

Anyhow, I rub you too, very very much. Talk to you later, tweetheart.
          • Nov 27, 2005, 11:20:09 AM UTC
Awww... I have always wanted to be a tweetheart. Smile Anywhoo, thank you for letting me know about the whole tinting thing. I really had no idea. I am so clueless sometimes. And rest assured that this is one beautiful drawing even if it doesn't get tinted. And I know you are so very busy, my love. Just don't over-work yourself. I know you want to get it done, but don't rush yourself. Take some time out once in a while and play with that adorable baby of yours. Smile Unless she is hiding in Chinese take out bags again. Laughing I will be waiting for your return. All my loveses and kissies to you. Mwah mwah mwah!

I fixed all the suggested problems on it now! It's all ready for the colours. *sigh* Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow and then I'll work on Helge's commission and then Arkillian's, and then I can move on to the unpaid bits. Wink It's getting tough to keep track of everything.

              All my love!
              Robin

Oh my poor lovey-dovey. Well you will get it done. I have every faith in you that you will. Yes You are just probably going to have hands that look as if they have been crippled by arthritis when you're done. My poor dear. Sad Well I will be anxiously waiting to see more work from you. And I can't wait to see what you draw for Arkillian. I lvoe her to pieces. She is always such an uplifting person and always goes out of her way to give the best and most encouraging comments to aspiring artists. Much like you do. Smile I am excited to see the rest of the cards when you get them done. The red suits turned out wonderfully and I know the black suits will be just as awesome. I rub you. Don't work yourself to death. I need you around to keep me in line dear hubby. All my love to you a million times. ^_^

lookin' awesome so far! can't wait to see this finnished!
  • Nov 24, 2005, 11:48:22 PM UTC
I think it looks awesome. There are a couple small things that could be changed but they aren't really all that important. The left little fairy's shape to me gets confused with the fay's wing. so maybe erase a branch of the wing or something? no biggy.
another thing is perhaps make the lower left and lower right foreground elements filled in more. just shade 'em in more and only have them have a little bit of rim lighting and it will add more depth.
Other than that. this is kick butt! and i think you should put it on something and sell it!
    • Nov 25, 2005, 11:37:26 AM UTC
Hurm, yes, I see what you're saying. I think I can fix that little fairy easily enough.

As to the foreground elements... I might be able to work on them more a little later - bring some more shadows in. My problem there was that I got so very fed up with trying to bring so much detail into a monotonous subject. The uprooted tree is actually full of little 'root sprites' which also made it difficult to shade properly around.

I think I may change the silhouetted leaves on the bottom as well. They seem out of place. Perhaps I'll change the type of leaf to a more bush-like setting.
      • Nov 26, 2005, 12:30:34 AM UTC
Yeah well whatever it is you decide to do I'm sure it will look great. A different type of leaf would give it some more variety though.
        • Nov 27, 2005, 10:06:12 AM UTC
Big Smile Check. Different type of leaf will be introduced. I hope I get 'the muse' today.
  • Nov 24, 2005, 10:13:59 PM UTC
Hmm...The only thing that really seems to be even the slightest off is her hand. The way it's positioned to me should be alittle flatter against the truck of the tree in there it seems like she lifting up her fingers alittle to lay them flat on the tree...you know what I mean?? It may also just be me and the way I look at things for all I know it could be perfect but thats all that really stands out to me. But in all honesty I had to stare at this for like ten minutes to find something. I really really love this pic and can't wait for you to finish it so I can add it to my favorites. I hope that helped good luck!
    • Nov 24, 2005, 10:30:40 PM UTC
Oh, yes, I see what you mean. I think I darked the pad by her thumb a little much. I'll have to see if it's mendable. Thank you so much, and yes indeed! Every little bit helps. Big Smile

You're most certainly welcome! I'm glad I helped a talented artist like yourself Grin
