Mirror - self portrait #1

Posted Jul 13, 2005, 7:42:24 AM UTC
Another one from about two years ago. This is a self-portrait, as Dennis requested. :) I know, it's a little odd... but so are all my sketchbook pieces. Writing, for those of you who are curious, is as follows (forgive my oddness, these were random thoughts. Much like journal or diary entries to me):

"Do we really see ourselves in the mirror, or is it merely a familiar face that we have come to accept as our own? Perhaps we see ourselves differently from how others see us. Mirrors can never properly show one's personality, can they? They spit back the image, but they don't reveal the person beneath. It's the same with a single photograph. You get a glimpse, a beginning to an idea - and then it is gone."

*hugs* I know. We'll discuss this more tonight, when the kids are in bed.

This is gorgeous, Mini. I think it is beautiful in the fact that it isn't like anything else I have ever seen. You sure do have a beautiful face. This is such a beautiful portrait.

My sketchbook art of this type is often like that... I like to try to incorparate new ideas and different media into my personal pieces. It helps me get into them more, I guess.

And POSH! I'm not that pretty. When one draws faces a lot, one tends to make oneself look more lovely than one really is.

Well, I say Posh! to that. You are pretty love. On the inside and out. You have a gorgeous unique face and don't even say you don't. Or else I will spank you. I can do it too. I am your wife, you know. Laughing

This is wonderful. I love how this portrait has a certain mood to it almost somber in a way. I don't know if that was your intent but its very effective. I also like the way you've checkered the coloring.

Yes, it was my intent... This was during a tough time in my life, and I figured I'd make the best use of it that I could... Which meant reflecting the mood in my drawings. It was kinda tough for me, but I did it anyway.

Wink You do need to remember that every one of these sketchbook pieces is from at least two years ago. The troubles from then are merely the memories of now.

I remember, it's just that the feelings are so well conveyed that I can't help but comment on them.
                • Jul 12, 2005, 11:13:33 PM UTC
*blush* Well thank you for that compliment, my friend. I think when we feel something so strongly, it doesn't take much for that emotion to get across on the paper....

Your very welcome and I agree, when emotions are strong enough it does bleed into our art.

Fortunately for me, though, I wasn't bleeding. Laughing Sorry, it had to be said.
