Just something I doodled today and decided to colour. I read the TOS, yet I'm still not entirely sure what kind of a gallery PaperDemon is. As it seems that people have posted pictures of animals and anthros, I too decided to upload a little kitty.
The roses on the background were made by creating brushes from a couple of photos that depicted floral patterns on fabric. I just blurred them and added some colour, so I can't really take credit for them. But I think the cat turned out pretty nice.
The composition and colour scheme are nicely coordinated. However, one thing stands out sharply to me... the cat has an *extremely* canine body shape, especially in the length of the torso and legs relative to each other. The legs themselves do have a more-or-less feline shape, but the feel of the shoulders combined with the extremely short body leads to a completely unignorable dogness. When I clicked on the thumbnail I was under the impression that I was about to see more closely a picture of a husky. x.x From the looks of things it seems like the paper either wasn't quite broad enough and you subconsciously shortened your figure rather than shrinking it to keep the appropriate proportions, or you're used to drawing canines and forgot to adjust proportions according to the new subject. I make the same mistake a lot too -- my horses often come out as ponies because I remember to switch to the shapes of a horse but not the proportions of a horse.
Actually come to think of it, that's a rather short body even on a canid, but I wouldn't have noticed it nearly so sharply if it were a canine figure.
Hmmmm... Interesting! When I drew this kitty I flipped the paper so that I'd have more space to draw... And I used reference for the pose. Perhaps the cat seems short and stubby because I made the fur so thick/head so big? The cat in the photo was a short-haired European breed.
I must admit that I seldom draw canines because I'm more of a cat person.
Anyhow, I greatly appreciate your feedback! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
