Character Name: Clear Sky

Character History:
Clear Sky was born in the Crystal Empire 25 years ago, during the Crystal infection epidemic. Her birthing mother (Mom) was unaffected at the time, but her other mother (Mama) had caught the infection a few months prior. Clear Sky grew up seeing her mama through a fence and living only with her mom.
In the middle of some nights, Clear Sky would wake up and her mom wouldn’t be in the house with her. But she’d fall back asleep and her mom would be home when Clear Sky awoke again in the morning. When she was a teenager, Clear Sky caught her mom in the act of leaving and she followed. There she would learn that every few weeks, her mom and mama would meet up in the quarantine zone.
Clear Sky wasn’t surprised when her mom caught the crystal infection. From then on, she lived with her uncles while her mothers lived with each other in the quarantine zone. Every night for a month, Clear Sky waited at the edge of the quarantine zone, hoping to see her mothers again. They rarely ever came. They’ve learned the risk of the crystal infection and would not repeat their mistakes and put their daughter in harm’s way. But that’s not how Clear Sky saw it. She felt abandoned and eventually stopped trying to see them.
Despite her mothers’ efforts, she would still contract the infection when she met a unicorn filly about her age on the other side of the quarantine fence. Clear Sky didn’t have many her age to talk to, and the friendship between the two grew and eventually changed into intimacy. They were young and didn’t understand the consequences of the infection. Clear Sky would catch the crystal infection shortly after sharing her first kiss with the other filly.
She tried to hide her infection at first, but her observant uncle noticed Clear Sky’s mannerisms changing. How much more stiff she would walk. Crying, her uncles sent her over to the quarantine zone to reunite with her mothers. The moment was a blur, but she remembers hearing her uncle beg his sister for forgiveness. The guilt she felt that day is still carried in her heart.
Clear Sky finally got to live with both of her mothers. But it wasn’t as good of a feeling as she had hoped. Her mom’s infection had progressed rather rapidly and she hardly knew her mama. As Clear Sky got older, the crystal infection advanced, eventually fully crystallizing her wings and locking them in place. The crystals began to creep along her back and grow along her shoulders, making her even less mobile. Meanwhile, her mom had become fully crystalized.
It was the guilt that the umbrum latched onto when they launched their attack against the Crystal Heart. Clear Sky fought off the possession at first, not going down without a fight. But when the umbrum reminded Clear Sky of what she put her family through. How desperately her mothers fought to keep her uninfected, breaking their own hearts in the process of never seeing their daughter enough. How her uncle blamed himself for not keeping a good enough eye on her. The mare she got her infection from that was so wracked with guilt she didn’t leave her house for years. Clear Sky caved and her heart sunk lower than ever. The umbrum gripped her mind and her body was used to cause terror to her own community.

Other Information about the Character:
Clear Sky loved to fly before the crystal infection debilitated her. She had hoped to fly again before she lost hope for ever finding a cure. During the umbrum attack, Brave Storm accidentally broke her wings when the earth pony stopped the processed Clear Sky from attacking a foal. While she knows it’s better she lost her wings instead of hurting a foal, she still holds a bitter attitude towards Brave Storm.
