Learning to Fly

I found a baby bird dead on my driveway. There weren't any trees above, so it couldn't have fallen from a nest, and its body was not torn or bloody like the victim of a cat, so I have no idea how it got there.

It had fragile, awkward looking legs that seemed too long for its body, and its pinkish skin was still sprouting feathers in some areas. This poor little creature was one of the ugliest and most beautiful things I've ever seen.
