I bought a roll of rice paper, and I had this urge to test it out. So, I just drew a very un-original and fairly lacking headshot of this foxy devil on it in about an hour, then tinted it a bit antique.
A bit of what I learned:
1. Rice paper is so fragile, that 2H pencils are really not a great idea to start out with. So, I went one up for the first pencil strokes and used HB.
2. Can't erase much at all; the paper will fray and you'll be left with fuzzies everywhere.
3. Whatever color backdrop is put behind it will change the appearance of the drawing. For example: If I put a black sheet behind it, the spots that were erased too much turn out looking overly shaded because of the paper loss.
All in all, I understand that with rice paper, short and sweet is the way to get the best result with pencil. I figure it's a decent way to teach myself how to get stuff on the first try and not rely on my eraser so much.
Of course I realize that rice paper is supposed to be used for paint and India ink for the most part, but I was unabashedly curious.^.^;;
