Chapter 6: Searching

Jean nodded doing the same. Ellie made her way to her room but at her door, Emma stood by looking to her Emma: Training? did you do a good job?

Ellie blinked, surprised to see her. "Ah..yes. It went well."

She smiled Emma: it's good to know that someone will talk to me. I am also glad your training went well. Still for you to be training.. planning on doing something dangerous?

Ellie shook her head. "Not sure yet.. Mainly just learning to better defend myself. Though I am curious, what you're doing here?"

Emma smirked Emma: Me? I'm just checking around really, wondering if there's someone in this place that doesn't hate me. Though, I am curious. I haven't seen Cyclops in a while, have any ideas where he went?

Ellie shook her head. "Not clue where he headed off to."

Emma closed her eyes Emma: hm.. I see. You know if I were a pretty bad mutant I could always just read your thoughts.. but nah. I think that would only make more enemies. Well then I'll be off, if you see Scott, tell him that Emma wants to see him. Todeloo little one. She waved as she started off down the hall disappearing around a corner.

Ellie shivered a bit at this, but made her way into her quarters next, shutting the door behind herself. "I don't like the sound of that.." She muttered as she went to make her way to the bed in the room to lie down.

It didn't take long for her to feel how exhausted she truly was. The training took a toll on her a bit but with all of her excitement from it, it kept her awake a bit. Soon it passed and she fell asleep. Night came and went but later that morning the sound of a jet could be heard taking off in the distance. Soon a knock at the door came.

Ellie woke up hearing the knock, and rose up, making her way over to the door and answering it by opening it. "Yes?"

Jean looked at her in her casual outfit. She smiled a bit Jean: I wanted to get you up for breakfast. Do you like pancakes?

Ellie nodded. "Pancakes sound good actually!"

She nodded giving Ellie some time to get changed and showered up then meet her at the kitchen. As she approached, on the table in front were pancakes on plates and syrup on the side along with butter. Jean sat down and smiled at her Jean: honestly it feels nice to be able to make breakfast without worrying about being attacked. It is pretty much the only time I feel like I can relax.

Ellie sat down and nodded. "It feels a little weird.. after everything so far, but it's a good weird." She poured a bit of syrup on her pancakes and took a bite.

Jean nodded taking a bit as well Jean: it's a nice feeling. Maybe the mansion should be destroyed more often. she laughed a little. still, it's mostly been a while since I've cooked. There are not many that enjoy a good breakfast lately.

Ellie smiled a little. "If it's any consolation, the food tastes good!"

She smiled Jean: that makes me happy to hear. I really don't have many to cook for lately. I'm hoping the future will change that for the better. We have lost so many in this battle.. so much family.. I don't want to lose anymore. Not anyone anymore. I feel like finding Nalm might help that too. Lately, though I've been worried about Scott. He's let his feelings of defending us overtake his emotions. It feels like he's growing distant from us all..

Ellie nodded. "I don't know you that well, but I can tell he cares about you and the others a lot. I don't think he's being distant, but more rather being cautious of how his decisions might affect you."

She frowned Jean: I know he means well.. but his feelings pull him into dark places.. especially when he is alone. Scott has a lot of rage for his family and cares deeply for the X men. In fact, sometimes I think all he cares about is us. He went along with the professor's wishes to coexist with humans, but he does not fully agree with them all the time.. sometimes I get afraid that may lead him to make a bad choice.

A voice came to them from the side ???: Oh? Scott and his bad choices seem to attract each other.

Jean growled a bit looking to see Emma staring at the group. She walked into the kitchen and helped herself to a pancake. Jean shook her head Jean: I'm sure you would know..

Emma shook her head Emma: Don't worry, I'll take my food to go. I know when I'm not wanted.. but I'm curious, do you even know where he is?

Jean stared at her with a stern look Jean: What does that matter to you? I thought you had things to prepare for.

Emma nodded Emma: oh I know my duty, but does he? or for that matter the two of you?

Ellie blinked. "What do you mean by duty?"

Emma nodded Emma: to your own kind, to the race the world seems to have no use or want for. Mutants in all.

Jean huffed Jean: your one to talk to. Were you thinking of Mutants when you were part of the Hellfire Club?

She blinked then laughed retorting Emma: Were you? oh right.. you didn't have to think.. we did it for you.

Jean's eyes glowed a bit with fiery energy as Emma formed her arm into a hardened diamond. The two stared off a bit but their powers faded as the Professor appeared and looked at Emma Professor X: Emma! why are you wasting time here?

She blinked Emma: Charles? what is it?

He snarled a bit Professor: get back to the lab! the Portal will need to be adjusted to your powers as well.

Emma blinked Emma: hah! alright. See you around.. girls. she walked off carrying a plate with a pancake on it smiling.

As she left the professor gave a sigh and smirked soon transforming into Forge. Forge: phew.. looks like my creation works to fool even Telekinetic powers pretty well.

Jean blinked Jean: Forge? oh, you fooled even me.. that's surprising.

Forge sniffed a bit and smiled Forge: that smells good, have any for me? Im starving. he soon went to the table and sat down taking a plate and a pancake slowly placing butter and syrup on it I've been working all night to get things ready.

Ellie blinked, looking at him in wonder, but shook her head a bit to clear off the surprised feeling, and asked instead. "Aren't they good? Did you have any luck?"

he nodded and placed a box near her side of the table Forge: It all went well but then there was a slight problem. The Genestrider's bioelectric energy conduits could not interface with the plasma conduits without causing an overload and sending multiple signals together. To put it simply it would still give you the powers and energy but only a set amount like last time. The answer: increase the number of X-men that you could shift into and use powers.. the other problem was that was far too much for one glove to handle let alone control. So instead I had to create an entirely new one to work with it in synchronization. Your first glove holds your charges and energy while letting you use a set amount of powers, the second saves that energy and allows you to use multiple powers or more of the saved mutants powers. The other gives more control and variety. he opened the box revealing two gauntlet-like gloves

Jean blinked Jean: so you mean you made an entirely new one?

Forge nodded Forge: the white one with a blue gem is the original I made. The bioenergy she outputs will go through there. The darker glove with the red gem uses plasma or blood to help access more traits of that  X-men or mutant in the system.

Ellie took them out, taking a closer look at them before putting them on to test out the fit. "Ah.. so if we knew the blood or plasma of another, technically it would give more access to more?"

He nodded Forge: sort of. I've programmed every single mutant in the database from their blood type into the gloves. Your blood will change accordingly to match the signals sent through you and change into that mutant with the blood type and the bio charge will allow that energy the mutant carries to become accessed easier allowing you to become that mutant or in your case shift to their power set. Now there are a few trade-offs you'll need to know.

Ellie blinked. "Trade-offs like what?"

he nodded Forge: for one, you won't be able to choose who you change into, but I'm working on that. I've made a power scale from one to a hundred and given certain charge stop points to allow access to that mutant's powers. In other words, if you send ten percent of your power into the gloves as the meter will tell you, you'll gain access to D-grade mutants like toad or more. If you go up to a charge of fifty percent or lower, you'll gain access to A-grade mutants. It goes to higher levels but I've placed a limiter on it for now. Fifty should be all you need.

Ellie nodded. "Ah, alright, that makes sense!"

Forge nodded Forge: there are also a few things you should know. For some mutants, I've limited the time you can shift to their powers. I've learned that when you use your powers this way, you get a mental backlash along with it. Meaning your emotions and feelings tend to change along with the powers. I've been able to limit how much of a change it does to you but if you stay too long as them, it may cause damage. At least you won't be picking up their traits. Don't need to see you sounding like Logan.

Ellie stared for a moment. "I guess that's understandable that there would be consequences.."

Forge nodded Forge: among that, there is also the discharge of energy. I've managed to redirect it to sending the orblike energy out of the palms of the glove. Now, as to where you're headed. I have a way to make it easy. The gem on the bioenergy glove or as I like to call it BC, holds the data of all teleportation mutants. I thought id make it separate from the main roster of mutants due to their unique powers but there is also another reason. Teleportation takes a lot of energy. Use it too much and you will drain your own energy. One jump will half the energy you may be able to output. So consider this, you can use fifty percent for battle and fifty percent for teleportation and still be able to defend yourself.

Ellie nodded. "In other words, we could teleport there and I still will have enough energy to defend myself if we run into trouble?"

Forge nodded Forge:  Exactly. Still, if things get dicey you can always run away.

Jean nodded Jean: if things come to that, still I don't think they will.

Forge looked at them Forge: well either way, when you are ready to go I'd go somewhere where the others won't find you before you decide to disappear. Try not to be long too.

Jean nodded Jean: as of right now, I'm sure the professor knows what we're planning but if we're quick, we may be able to get this done before anything happens. When you are ready Ellie, meet me in the training room. It is the most secure place to leave from.

Ellie nodded. "I'll meet you there then." She excused herself from the room and made her way through the halls toward it to wait.

Forge waved her off as she left. Once she was at the door though Emma stood waiting with a smirk Emma: that was a pretty clever thing Forge did, but why the hiding? can't I help?

Jean soon arrived and shook her head Jean: again? don't you have someone to bother?

Emma shook her head Emma: come on! we can make it a girls' road trip! I won't bug you, much. she smirked.

Ellie blinked. "why do you want to help? And second, aren't you supposed to be helping the professor?"

Emma nodded Emma: about that, turns out our little Astral Gate is going to be delayed for a day. Beast said something about a bigger gate needed. Gives me nothing but free time, still, I'm more interested in whats going on with you two. I've heard a bit about the kid your after.. do you really think you'll find him?

Jean growled a bit. Emma waved her hands Emma: okay okay, I know when I'm not wanted, but let me tell you this, wouldn't two mutants with telekinesis be better than one? You could find more than you bargained for.

Ellie blinked. "It's true we could find more, but we also don't know what to expect from him either. He might be more willing to trust those he already has met over complete strangers entertaining their own motives and curiosity."

Emma shook her head Emma: if you are willing to go on that thought, then you might as well go there the long way. Listen, If i were him and just appeared again in this world, then id be disoriented and attacking anything in sight. There's no way to tell what he's been through and isn't it true that he has attacked you before?

Jean blinked Jean: and how would you know that?

Emma gasped and covered her mouth Emma: ...oh don't worry about that.

Jean growled Jean: you were reading her mind? As she slept! how dare you!

Emma shrugged Emma: I only took a peek!

Ellie frowned. "This is why I don't like to sleep!"

Emma sighed Emma: hold on, you could tell him.. or I could tell him how are you planning this trip without his consent, what's more I could tell about a certain someone being gone for some time.. she looked to Ellie someone who told you not to tell anyone they left?

Jean growled Jean: really? is this your way of trying to blackmail us?

Ellie frowned. "We could tell him about all three things. But at least I'd not have broken their wishes by saying anything about them going. What's more, forcing our hands isn't a good way to get us to trust you. "

She sighed Emma: alright alright, fine be that way. I only wanted to help. We are going to be spending time together either way, whether it be here or out there fighting against all the madness. Wouldn't it be better to start a fresh bond now? She closed her eyes I'm not really good at all this friendship stuff, when you are in a group that could have you replaced and thrown out to the wolves with just a flick of a hair it's easy to betray people. I admit when I first came to this island, I wanted to sell it off to whatever group that wanted them dead and would pay well, but I see that I'm just running and covering the pain that I was given. I never even wanted to accept myself as part of the mutants until i got to know everyone here. So please.. just give me one chance. I do want to help. No strings attached.

Jean could feel the sentiments in her words. Jean: I hate to say this.. but I believe you. Still it is not my place to choose. It is up to Ellie. Besides the professor always told us that everyone was redeemable, even you.

Ellie gave a nod. "Fine. But for one, stay out of my head. And two, to clarify - I'm going there with the intent to find and help him not hurt him."

She smiled wide and nodded with a bit of a childish cheer Emma: Great! you won't regret it! I promise to follow your lead little leader!

Jean shook her head Jean: if you're done, we should get going. She opened the door to the training room and walked inside.

Ellie followed after her into the room, next, with a nod.

the door closed behind them as Forge's voice came from around the area Forge: Emma? ah.. well I guess the more the merrier.. so if you are wanting to teleport you should use your energy to charge the blue crystals.

Ellie nodded and started the process of gathering energy into the new gauntlet gloves.

the charge soon reached the energy stopping at ten percent. Forge nodded Forge: that's good, looks like.. hmm. Blink? She can teleport a large mass in a simple movement but.. we may have a problem. Has anyone been to Egypt? Much less this "Akhnthoth" place?

Emma blinked Emma: wait you are going there? well, its a good thing you do have me with you! I happen to know where the closest location to that is.. but you do know that's near Apocalypse's first Tomb, right?

Ellie blinked. "You have?"

Emma nodded Emma: got mixed into the wrong crowd.. bunch of worshippers. I was trying to take a few things around and then... ah that's just ancient history now. So then how does this work Forge?

Forge spoke Forge: hm.. well alright.. you'll have to place your hand on the Bio Charge glove crystal and focus on where, Ellie can focus on getting you all there with a wave of her hands. The portal should open in front of you then.

Ellie held her hand out towards Emma - extending the gauntlet glove towards her while getting ready with the other hand.

Emma focused and placed her hand on the gauntlet. Soon a small glow came from the gauntlet as it became steady with power

Ellie focused and waved her hand before herself once it seemed the power was stable, trying to open a portal.

The portal appeared but a quick change in energy caused the glove to start to pull more of her energy from her. Soon the portal grew huge and the three of them were pulled in. In the portal, Jean and Emma were pulled forward vanishing ahead as she finally was pulled out of the portal and landed alone in front of a large structure.
