Chapter 1: The Wildflower Festival

When Fallen came across the market bustling with many different creatures of various ages and dresses she was curious. She was not used to seeing the amount of people in one place due to her constant travel. The second thing she noticed was the banners and flags flying in the wind as petals of various flowers flowed along as well.

She could faintly smell the sweet scent of the flowers, like a distant memory as they brushed past her armor, their soft touch a bit different to what she usually feels. Some stuck to her armor and she grabbed the petals gently in her armored hands, careful to not damage it and let the wind carry them further down on their journey.

She continued her walk, a hand resting on the hilt of her axe in comfort at the amount of people but everyone seemed more interested with the various stalls and personal caring for the various flowers and plants lined along the walkway.

Picking up on tidbits of information she could easily gather that there was a festival, The Wildflower Festival. She had never been around to partake in a festival, if there ever was one. Often stuck with guard duty to those of importances so that they could partake. It was different being in a festival and not worried about the safety of someone or if they had enough guards out to properly protect.

Fallen, in her train of thought almost missed what looked like three kids quickly running up to her. Immediately kneeling down she made herself look smaller to not frighten them as much.

“What's wrong little ones? Is everything alright?”

She spoke softly, aware of how her voice travels and echoes due to her armor. The kids looked at each other before giggling, the middle child, most likely the oldest, held something behind her. Before Fallen knew it something soft was quickly thrown over her head and landed on her shoulders.

The kids frowned initially and looked to where the soft thing was supposed to land and to where it did. Fallen glanced at it, many flowers of various shapes, colors, and sizes were tied around a long vine. It seemed as though they tried to make a flower crown but over sized it.

“Do not fret.”

She spoke before pausing, a small sigil forming in her hand casting a soft golden glow.  The vines, now glowing the same golden color, extended reaching up to her helmet and curled around her horns, More flowers of what they used reaching with it to make a crown on her head. The flowers and vines on her shoulders reached down slowly, extending to rest over her small brown cape on her back before they stopped glowing and slowly stopped stretching.

The children's faces light up in glee, each of them bouncing in the spot excited. Fallen, plucking three flowers the grew father then her horns could hold, and gave them to the children.

“Happy Wildflower Festival!”

The children shouted before running off, laughing and giggling as they turned a corner. Fallen rose to her feet. Looking around to see if anyone paid attention to her or the children but found no looks of hostility or fear. Her shoulders sagged as if releasing a breath before straightening back to her full height.

Turning down a more quiet street, Fallen could see stalls and various shopkeepers tending to their plants. She could also see various adventures walking along, many seemed to be taking the festival as a vacation while others were busy moving to and fro, finding plants they needed for their own reasons before moving on, but they too seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere.

With a band playing a soft and calm melody on the side, Fallen took to shopping as well. Finding many plants to use on her adventures as well as some there were originally thought rare.

She was careful with what she touched, worried about damaging such soft and precious things as she looked around. Many of the planets were of helpful remedies, not quiet she was looking for but figured the more dangerous ones would not be displayed so openly.

Many shopkeepers openly approached her and asked if she needed assistants, causing her to try and quickly send them on their way, not used to being so open and welcoming. Occasionally she would have to approach them and ask her question but felt more comfortable doing it on her terms.

“You are not used to the attention.”

Fallen turned to the voice, it was deep, and rumbled like a growl but with no ill intent. Spoken like a statement. She came face to chest with a large creature. She looked up, taking a small step back to give space to this beast.

“No, I am not.”

She spoke cautiously. The creature was well over nine feet and sported two sets of arms and a large tail that gently moved behind it. A soft shine blue halo with points floated over its head. Flowers decorated its moss green colored hair as willow tree leaves cascaded down decorated onto its body similar to a dress.

She was unsure why it chose to speak to her, but she chose to stay still and not comment. She feared for the worse if she somehow upset the thing.

“May I accompany you? I have not seen you before.”

She gave a shrug before nodding, trying to seem as relaxed about this as possible, yet her hand on the hilt of her axe only tightened in response. The creatures turned and walked out of the shop, prompting Fallen to follow, but still keeping a careful distance between her and the beast.

“It is my first time visiting here, I am Fallen. May I be graced with your name?”

“Lithias. Your speech? You're royalty or did you protect?”

He spoke with a gentle rumble, looking down at the knight, head tilted curiously to the right.

“I was a Royal Guard before I was given my new task. I did not expect someone to recognize my history, or actually see it.”

She spoke the words flowing freely and unrestricted compared to normal.

“I recognize a Knight, My own suffers the same.”

Lithias spoke and that piqued Fallen’s curiosity. His own knight? Was this someone of importance here? What was his title? She hasn't properly respected a greeting with him.

“Apologies, I did not know you were a. . .Person of importance.”

Lithias simply chuckled.

“Do not worry, I'm just a king of a small territory of woods, though not officially. I just maintained it from thieves and poachers, In return I was graced with the title Wood King.”

He spoke as the smaller pair of hands waved in the air. Fallen watched, before a shoulder bumped into her from behind and quickly rounded in front of the two.

“My liege, Please do not walk off without me. . .Again.”

It was another knight but much older by the tattered cloth and rusted armor. One leg supported by what seemed to be a tree limb and rocks tangled together as the other was covered in flowers and moss. Flowers and vines spilled from the right side of the helmet. A hood with moss covered most of the damaged armor but Fallen could make out a black sludge-like substance moving in the sunlight.

Fallen wanted to pull her axe for such rude behavior but stilled by the hand on her shoulder.

“Juniper apologies for slamming your shoulder into Fallen.”

Juniper turned their head toward Fallen and gave a once over before looking back to Lithias.

“Why are you with another knight? Where is their Charge?”

“Juniper.”

“Fine! Fallen? Sorry I didn't mean to run into you, Now back to my questions!”

Lithias simply huffed, as though this was a recurring thing. He turned to Fallenand spoke.

“Im sorry, I shall take care of my Knight, perhaps we'll meet again Little Knight?”

Fallen nodded, saying goodbye and continued on to look through the city in search of a place to rest as the sun slowly began its descent.

This tale is so peaceful and intriguing at the same time! I love the descriptions of the flower festival and her interactions with the kids, and these two mysterious forest-y knight figures. I wonder if they'll meet again... I know I'd love to find out more about Lithias and Juniper ^v^

Thank you! It’s been a hot minute since I wrote anything and really wanted to try (and so I can give my wrist a break from drawing)
Lithias will def be showing up more (I’m planing on adding him to my character options to play with) while juniper will most likely just make surprise visits due to how complex their design is I can’t pump out art with them just yet (I would love to make a 3D model of them to use instead)
