Chapter 1: Arrival in Crater

Thud

Logan felt the painful contact of his back against the ground; before he could register the pain, he scrambled up, accompanied by the clattering of his pokeball’s. Still unable to see or think clearly, he reached for the top ball, clicking the central button,

“Go Crobat” escaped his mouth before he realized the ball wasn’t enlarging- he clicked the button a few more times, but no luck. In anger, he chucked it at the ground, where it bounced open- empty.

“Crobat?” He chocked- suddenly worried. He pulled off his second ball, but clicking its button offered the same results as the first- in fact, it seemed all five of his pokeballs where completely empty.

“What the hell?” He grumbled before realizing that he was speaking to silence. He looked around- but the air around him seemed free of dark pests.

“Rotom?” He called, “Rotom?!” He called, more worry in his tone.

Bzzt

A small whiring sound emitted from the ground, and after a moment, the little pokemon, still in it’s phone case floated up-

“Oh thank god- Rotom you’re okay.” Logan said reaching up a hand to his little buddy.

“Are-“ the robotic voice squeaked- “Are the others not?”

Logan sat down sadly, “no…” he scooped up what once was Crobat’s pokeball. “They’re all gone… and the portal’s closed.” He began to fasten the pokeballs to his bag, “What do we do Rotom? What… what can we do?”

Logan might’ve sat there for the rest of his life, but as the sun began to set, and the hunger grew, rotom floated near him, “L- are you going to sit here… forever?”

“What else can I do Rotom-all our friends are somewhere, hell, maybe some-when- they’re probably in danger, and scared, and it’s… it’s all my fault.”

Logan fished a blue apricorn from his bag and chucked it as hard as he could at the tree in front of him cracking the apricorn and sending the tree rustling.

“Sitting here isn’t going to bring them back Logan…” the Rotom whispered Robotically.

“I guess it’s not- but where can we go?” Logan stood up slowly, dusting the now-empty pokeballs off briskly. “Forward I suppose.”

Without another word, the two began forward, into this strange new world.

It was getting dark by the time Logan’s Rotom got his attention again.

“Logan look-“

Logan didn’t entirely register the little companions voice at first, and continued to walk.

“Look! A pokemon centre!” Rotom chirped again, finally earning Logan’s notice. “We could rest up… and you could make friends!”

Stopping, and looking in the direction Rotom was, Logan dawned a bemused expression, “You’re fucking joking… Right?” he asked in a dry sarcastic tone.

“I’m serious Logan! You can’t keep walking forever, you need to eat, sleep, something.”

“No thanks.” He stated and headed on. “I don’t know how, but I’m going to get them back. I’m not going to let anyone else hurt my friends-“

“How are you going to do that hungry and tired?” Rotom asked a tinge of annoyance infecting his voice.

“I don’t know, or frankly care, I’m going to.”

“The only thing you’re going to do is die. And then what use are you to anyone?”

“UGH!” Logan growled, “Fine you worry watt, I’ll eat uh-“ he glanced around the forest until he spotted some berries- “I’ll eat some berries, dear lord.”

“Now that’s more like it- you big baby.” Rotom chirped.

Plucking some berries, Logan sat down to eat them- but before he could take even a single bite- the tiredness overcame him- and he slumped down- fast asleep.

In a soft, almost human voice, Rotom whispered, “Sleep well Logan- everything will be okay.”
