Chapter 8: The Feast

"Oh yes! We should definitely go dig for the storage silos and barns content!" exclaimed the silken corva as her belly grumbled loudly

While Cym and Tempest left towards the storage buildings, they took a few peeks at the villagers a few wings away. They were slowly gathering around the peak of the village's Gods Temple, still out of the snow.

The Temple would be their shelter until spring; it was known for its big size and sturdiness. Therefore to no one's surprise and regardless of the calamity, that monument had stayed up for many generations with Daius and Nokt's powers provided from their believers faith. Even if some people were Voidrae, the respect between villagers regarding their personal faith was flawless; everyone would be welcomed inside until all houses would be inhabitable again after the warm temperatures return.

The people were still working hard now that the rescue was done and exhaustion started to be felt in the air. "It is definitely time for all of this to be over and finally rest." thought Cym

Tempest clawed at the snow with vigour to gain access to the front door of the storage barn, but she also seemed to have barely any energy left. Nonetheless, she was determined and after a good half hour, the entrance door was finally openable. As the two stryxes entered the building, they were pleased to see loads of packed food, but also material to cook, prepare fires, hunt and fish. This would be more than enough to survive the upcoming month.

Cym and Tempest began hauling supplies back to the temple, where the villagers and their stryx were glad to help if they were able. Once everything they would need was out of the storage barn, Cym and Tempest began to relax as the atmosphere of the temple began to lighten up, the building filling with laughter and chatter as the village inhabitants began to relax as well. Wonderful smells began to waft into the air from the food being prepared and cooked, almost enough to make Cym start drooling like this was her first meal in forever. Well, it sure felt like it anyway.

Soon enough Tempest called Cym over to sit next to her in a less populated corner of the temple, to which Cym obliged and trotted over, plopping down with a huff next to the gryph.

"I think everyone will be ok, we rescued almost everyone we could." Tempest said, saying the last bit with a smidge of bitterness in her voice.
Of course there were some casualties; those they couldn't find or dig out in time, or who hadn't survived the initial event. Cym knew it was unfortunate, but that's how it goes sometimes. At least they had done all they could to help.

With a yawn Cym tucked her head into the silken feathers on her chest, closing her eyes to rest for a bit until the food was served to everyone. She wouldn't eat before knowing that each of the survivors had already had their fill.

Cym awoke to gentle nudges at her side, the sounds of hushed chatter and wonderful and tasty aromas making their way over to where she had fallen asleep. The villagers were eating now, and Tempest had begun poking at Cym's side to wake her up.

"Food's ready, and it looks like everyone has gotten what they need. Want to go have what's left?" Tempest asked, sounding half-asleep herself. Cym nodded, yawning again and stood up, making her way over to where the food was being served with Tempest. They each took as much as they needed, leaving nothing to go to waste. Cym smiled to herself.

Everything was going to be ok.
