Chapter 1: Fishing for Revenge

Sansy sighed as she enjoyed the early hours of dusk. She was up earlier than normal and her eyes were not used to such warm tones that streak across the sky before turning to darker purples. As she stretched her wings where she sat huddled in her nest she looked out over the cliffs she’d perched herself upon. Down below the mountain where she rested a large lake spanned out in front of her. Over it a couple young stryx practiced their fishing skills. “Hmmm, fresh fish would be nice.” She mused just as a familiar flash of purple caught her eyes. “But payback would be even better!”

Avanti hummed to himself as he dove down to the lakes surface, snatching a fairly sized bass out of the water. Grinning to himself he hoisted the fish over to the edge of the lake, setting it down in amongst the rock where he could keep a good eye on it as he continued to fish. With a well propelled leap he launched back into the sky, circling the waters surface. Spotting a large catfish he tucked his wings and dove towards the watery depths. Feet forward his wings flew open as he smirked, snatching the fish from its home in second. “This is too easy.” He scoffed with a grin as he circled over to where he had stashed the bass.

All of a sudden a flash of brown struck the water's surface right in front of him. Nearly knocking him into the depths. Looking down he couldn’t believe his eyes as he watched Sansy flit almost entirely into the water before propelling herself free with two fair bluegill in her clutches.

Sansy smiled as she noticed she had thrown Avanti for a loop, confusing the older bird. Moving to the shoreline she too stashed her fish in amongst the rocks before taking off again. Plugging entirely below the water's surface she re-emerged with two more bluegill in her clutches. Moving over to the rocks she deposited the other two fish and went to presume to be hunting some more. Circling the water through her eyes never left her stash. As she predicted Avanti saw the easy target and after stashing his second fish the larger male grabbed up his catch and moved towards her pile of fish.

She watched as Avanti methodically stacked the six fish together though he glanced around to see if he’d been caught snagging her meal. Clutching four in one set of talons and two in the other he took off, beginning to fly away. The purple male had no idea Sansy was fully aware of his movements. On top of that she knew that not far from the lake lived a pack of wolves, always eager to pick off what they could.

Avanti didn’t know what was happening until Sansy was upon him. “WHAT THE HELL!” He screeched in both surprise and anger as Sansy sunk her talons into the fish he was carrying and sent her weight forwards. In seconds the two were spinning round and round one another in the air until Avanti dropped the fish in a rage. Sansy followed suit, snickering to herself as the six fish fell to the woodland floor in the midst of the trees.

“You little brat! You cost me my fish!” Avanti snapped with a glare as he hovered in the air. “And you once cost me my deer!” Sansy spat back before she spread her wings and looped back towards her nest as Avanti cursed and swore up a storm. Though they were both hungry this time Sansy smirked. Fishing was easy for her and living next to the lake, it wasn’t much of an inconvenience for her to be without some fish. But it sure was a pleasing feeling to have gotten back at Avanti, though she doubted he would soon forget her little acrobatics routine.
