Chapter 1: Apaniis Room

Apanii's Room

Excited Apanii jumped over roots and rocks, knowing every single one on her way with eyes closed by now. Her hands wrapped around a little something made out of metal. She had no idea what it was, but it surely looked strange and unique enough for her to claim! As a huge oak tree came to her view she ducked underneath two huge roots to almost slide into the huge, hollow inside of the tree trunk.

On the inside the fae straightened up again, looking around. A huge chamber was presented before her, the walls made out of the strong bark of the oak. Light flooded the room through the leaves and branches that were her roof, as well as through a window inside of the bark itself that the other fae helped her create with their magic.

A huge hammock was hanging in the middle of the room, connected to some more raised platforms and branches. On it things like moss, feathers and leaves were scattered, as well as some blankets and pillows alongside one or two animals sleeping on it right now.

It was a good thing that Apaniis bed would hang there, just as it was a good thing that Apanii could levitate a little over the ground - because even setting a single foot on this floor would be near to impossible. Random things were scattered all over the floor, as well as hanging on the walls, from branches, just everywhere possible. Plants, empty pots, self made things and especially all the little trinkets and curiosities she found on the trading routes, stole or her father gifted her. It was a pure mess, but on a level of chaos Apanii enjoyed it a lot.

She liked how all the golden and metallic things reflected the light all around her room, giving everything sort of a warm shimmer as the golden sunlight bounced around. She liked how the plants were finding their own way, seemingly also enjoying the light that was simply reflected everywhere. It was her own creation, a space of her own, chaotic rules. It was her home.

She couldn’t wait for autumn, where everything also was decorated with the endless colors of the oak leaves! Even if she knew she would have to protect all her shiny and small belongings from the squirrels again. Of course they’re allowed to take them, but not to carry them out of the tree, as Apanii feared she would never see them again when the furry little idiots forgot how they buried them again.

With a racing heart the fae looked at the small thing inside her hands. It seemed to be some kind of necklace, a golden chain with a round thing at the end. Apanii started to do again what she did when she just found it and opened the round ending. Inside there was something similar to a clock (her father already explained what clocks are to her!), but it didn’t have any numbers. Instead it had four Letters on it, one on each side and in the middle a metallic arrow that was turning whenever Apanii turned into a different direction. It surely must be something magical! But where to put it?

It must be visible, just like any other fascinating thing in her room! Excited, the fae looked around, floating over all the things while thinking about a good spot. She started to land on the stairs bringing her up to the second area, which was hovering over the first one like a balcony. The fae looked around the railing, but every spot here already was claimed. This would promise a long search. Maybe she should expand in the near future.

Her ears twitched a little when she heard a sound coming from above her. As she looked up she could see a pair of tiny, dark eyes watching her. Out of a hole in a thicker branch a little raccoon curiously followed her steps. “Oh, you’re new. Welcome!”, she smiled, hovering up to the little newcomer. Curious, the fae looked into the hole, discovering it wasn’t very big yet. And looking around the branch she clearly could see some free spots to hang curiosities from. A smile showed the sharp teeth of the half-demon.

“You think you can keep that save for me?”, she whispered, hanging the golden chain around the branch, right next to the hole. The raccoon sniffed on the metal and after trying to bite it and realizing it wasn’t food grabbed it, curiously turning it around before letting out a satisfied sound and vanishing into the hole. Apanii grinned a little. “Thanks! If you need help with your den just tell me! And if you want to cuddle at night, my hammock is always there!”, she smiled, before hovering back down to the railing and sitting on it, taking in the sight of her glimmering and glittering room once again.

I do know Howl’s Moving Castle, though it has been a long time since I watched it. Regardless, your depiction is wonderful.

Omg, the whimsy of this story! I love it so much! The picture you painted was just so vivid and I felt like I was taken into Apanii's world for a little bit.

Ohh thank you so much, I'm so glad you feel like that! Describing places always is the hardest for me in writings so I'm really glad I was able to create that picture for you!
