This Portal is Stable.
Greetings PaperDemons, welcome to our first portal of 2022!
New to our Art RPG? Check out our beginner’s guide to get started!
This portal opens to reveal a desert filled with fascinating creatures and rock formations.
The air is dry and hot, the rays of sun a physical presence in the midday heat. A draconic creature rides the winds high above, its hide reflecting in the sunlight like a daytime star. Its titanic shadow glides slowly across the ground, traveling up canyon walls and across buttes and mesas and odd natural structures made from the winds and the weather. Sprawling cities coaxed from the ground by earth magic fan out around verdant oases, inhabited by a rainbow of species from across the galaxy. The desert people are welcoming to travelers– as many of them were travelers once themselves. Do not cross them, however, or you might find every stall in the market ‘happens’ to be out of water when you go looking.

Prompt #1 - Strata Spires
Hours in from the coast, a vast field of layered fingers of rock jut out from the desert. The exposed layers of sediment make a veritable rainbow of colors ranging from vivid reds and sleek golds to deep purples and slate blues. While the Spires do attract tourists, the remote location and danger of toppling spires leaves it mostly populated by daredevils both local and intergalactic. Many use it for high stakes races. Show your character among the Strata Spires. Your piece must include your character and striped towers of rock.
Prompt #2 - Cloud’s End Celebration
In early spring, furious storms batter the desert with floods and curtains of lightning. While these storms are considered a blessing for the fresh water they bring, they are also a time of hardship and danger. After the storms clear, the people gather for the cloud’s end celebration, during which many bring food from a wide array of different cultures and many dances are hosted in squares across the cities. There is also a famous competition to find the most beautiful piece of fulgurite made from glassed sand where lightning struck. Show your character during the cloud’s end celebration. Your piece must include your character and a celebration in a desert city. You can depict feasting, dancing, the fulgurite competition, or other celebratory activities.
Prompt #3 - Chlorosaurs
Chlorosaurs are vast, winged beasts that glide through the desert skies. Their bodies range from long and thin to wide and flat, but all of them are far lighter than they look. Their wings are shiny and almost glow in the desert sun. Chlorosaurs live solely on sunlight and water, spending their days in the skies soaking up rays. They only land while nesting or when they are exhausted or injured. A small population of Chlorosaurs have been tamed, but their massive size and inability to carry more than two or three people have made them less appealing as pets or working animals. Show your character encountering a Chlorosaur. Your piece must include your character and a chlorosaur in the sky or in the desert.
