Greetings PaperDemons, we’re kicking this year off with a bang and bringing you back to Aridin for an exciting adventure. This challenge is a Quest challenge– quests will allow your character a chance to find their place in PaperDemon lore and history. What’s your story?

A month after last year’s successful Tura Doraci, all of the visitors have returned home and the cities of Aridin have returned to their daily life. All the cities but one. Trouble is brewing in a major city in the South-East, Decra. The orb in Decra’s Tura temple is steadily leaking energy at an alarming rate. The guardians of the temple send out a call for help– to identify the source and refill the orb before the city runs out of power.

Many arrive to help collect elemental energy to power the swiftly draining orb, while sleuths seek out clues and causes. Could it be damage? Sabotage? Some ancient god returning and demanding tribute? Join the adventure and find out!

Challenge Requirements

For this Art RPG Quest Challenge, you will be taking your very own original character on a special quest. You will be using the character you registered in our Character Creation Challenge. If you haven’t registered a character yet, follow that link to do so!

Pick one of the prompts below and draw or write your registered character in this new world!

• If you are submitting art, it should be a full color piece that shows at least half of your character’s body and a background. Shading is optional.

• If you are submitting writing, your registered character should be the focus of the piece. The piece should be at least 1000 words and it must match the content of the prompt you have chosen.

• Submit your creative work to PaperDemon.com and copy paste the prompt you selected into the submission description. 

• To receive AP and items for completing this challenge, submit your work to the form at the bottom of this page.

Prompts

Prompt #1 - Aerial Refueling

You’ve joined the citizens of Decra in a mission to collect as much energy as possible to keep the orb functional. Without the influx of visitors that come during the Tura Doraci season, solutions are few and far between. Rotating shifts of citizens with high elemental power pour energy into the orb, while others seek out powerful artifacts to sacrifice. A few go so far as to drain the energy from a swathe of the rainforest outside Decra– and are severely punished. Draw or write about your character’s efforts to refuel the orb. Your piece must include your character with either the orb on the Tura temple or an energy source they are planning to use on it.

Prompt #2 - Cracked

Minute cracks riddle the center of the orb. The source of the damage is unknown– is it sabotage or natural wear? You join the guardians seeking out answers and solutions. How was the orb damaged? Is it still at risk? How can it be repaired? You delve into research to find artifacts, spells, or other ways to repair or recreate the orb. Draw or write about your character repairing or figuring out how to repair the orb. Your piece must include your character with the orb, or your character seeking out a way to repair it.

Prompt #3 - Rootways

You trace the energy drain to its source– somewhere down in the city below. The roads themselves feel rich with energy, and you discover that the power has sunk beneath the surface of the city down into the roots below. To your surprise, you discover intricate, recently grown tunnels of roots that stretch under the city in a complex labyrinth. Who has built them? Why? How are they taking the orb’s power? Draw or write about your character investigating the root tunnels below the city. Your piece must include your character and either the root tunnels or those responsible for them.

Prompt #4 - Freestyle

Have an exciting idea of your own about how to handle the story? You can make up your own reason for the orb’s loss of power. Is it being stolen? Is it draining off into a portal that opened inside it? Is there an energy eating plant that grew on the temple and is now overtaking the floating island as it eats the orb’s power? Draw or write about your character’s own adventure to discover the mystery. Your piece must include your character and an element of the story you’ve come up with for the orb’s troubles.
